Hi!

My name is Heiko and I am from Frankfurt, Germany. Since round about one year I regularly check this forum, especially the „Cipher Mailings & Discussions“ section. I spent a lot of time trying to solve z340, obviously without success until now =)

I am a software developer and in my spare time I am writing a library in python which provides a lot of functionality for (un-)transposing the cipher in many ways. It ranges from simple things like flipping/rotating to more complex solutions like different kind of shapes. I’ve implemented a couple of ideas like Dan Olsons assumption, odd/even sorting, prime positions, skipping letters, remove filler, columnar transpositions with keywords, quadrants, strange patterns (e.g. Z-shapes) and so on. The results are passed to the awesome tools zkdecrypto (command line) and AZDecrypt. My library can also generate test ciphers and it proves some basic functionality for statistical analysis.

I have lots of ideas based on transposition which I will implement in future. If there is some kind of database which holds all transposition ideas which does NOT lead to a solution I would be happy to contribute my results. I’ve learned so much from you guys and I hope I can give something back in the future.

Thank you for adding me to this great forum.
Heiko

Hi Largo! Welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more about your work. I am glad to hear you have been trying different ideas. I, too, have been working on making test ciphers, and my goal is to create a "hypothesis testing" page that collects them all, for the purpose of ruling out specific encipherment schemes. Would love to see what kind of test ciphers you’ve come up with.

Many transposition ideas have been tried but the knowledge about which specific schemes have been ruled out is not well documented. I hope that can be corrected in the near future.
