Hello, my handle is Markus Katus. I live in East Bay Area, right across the Benicia Bridge; a 10 minute drive to LHR off 680 and about 15 minutes to BRS (plus bridge toll). It’s the LHR exit that always reminds me of the Zodiac murders.

I first heard of Zodiac back in the mid-90’s, while painting houses as a Summer job. My boss was a Vallejo native, graduating from Vallejo SR. High in the mid-60’s. During the murders he was away at college, however. By 1993 it was more area lore than anything else, and he would just relay anecdoctal tidbits of the crimes. He didn’t know any of the victims, although whenever we drove past BRS he would mention it. Until the movie came out in 2007, this would be my only knowledge of the murders. It would consist of driving past LHR and my friends and I simultaneously blurting out "Zodiac". I drove through LHR a couple of times, but had no idea what I was looking for.

Recently, I have become excited about the subject. Zodiac was on TV a month or so ago and got me thinking about it. I’ve watched pretty much everything YouTube has to offer, as well as going on to some sites. I discovered this site after hearing Morph on the Generation Why podcast.

I next downloaded the 340 cipher, went mad, and continue looking at it. I’ve read as many of the police reports that Ive had time for, particularly LHR and BRS. This is really due to the stories I heard as a teenager. I now know how all consuming this can be, and I’m really only a month in.

On a personal note, I start Grad School at the end of the month (Sept.). It’s in History, and I’m hoping the critical thinking and primary source objectivity skills will come in handy for this case.
