I’m a magician in Las Vegas who has been fascinated by the Zodiac case ever since I read Graysmiths first book. As a magician I question everything and wondered how much of his book was accurate. After much "online" research I believe his book is largely fiction. I find the comparisons to magic interesting. The Zodiac controlled what we saw and when we saw it (a master of misdirection) and then…disappeared. As fascinating as all this is, my heart aches for the victims, their families and friends. I’ve been reading boards for a while now and I want to say thank you to all those who continue to dig and search and update on their findings.

Yes, I agree, misdirection was almost certainly one of the tools had in his bag of tricks.

Hi Craig, welcome to the forum. Graysmith was the master of misdirection when he published his books. On the other hand if it wasn’t for those books the Zodiac case may have become largely forgotten. There is quite a bit of valid information in his first book but unfortunately it is skewed towards his suspect so it is difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Just caught some of your coin magic on YouTube. Nice stuff.
Although I would make a pretty poor stage magician, one of my favorite sets of books is the Fitzkee Trilogy. I learned a lot about the underlying principles. That information is very useful in certain life situations.
It is fortuitous that you came along. I have long wondered if Z was thinking like a magician at Presidio Heights. Would love to know your thoughts on this, and any other topic.

Seagull, I agree that Graysmith deserves much credit for writing his books. It has kept the memory of the victims alive and hope for justice.
Ggluckman, you must be into magic to know about the Fitzkee books. Very cool. Michael Skinner gave me my Fitzkee Trilogy.
As far as Zodiac and magic, some have theorized that Z may have been influenced by the movie Charlie Chan at Treasure Island. There is a slick Magician in that movie played by Cesar Romero. Influence may be a stretch. He may just have seen it.

I was lucky to have been a student of Skinner and got to meet Vernon once.
I just remembered that in the movie Charlie Chan at Treasure Island, the bad guy is "Dr. Zodiac".
