I just listened to the voice recording of this new suspect and I am sorry to say that in no way is that a monotone sounding voice.
This guy has expression in his voice.

I have heard the voice of a person who truly has a monotone voice , there is a huge difference!

Monotone is very flat no high and low pitch, this person has high and low pitch, not real high or real low, but enough that it should not be considered monotone.

Listen to the earlier voice recording, from 2003, linked to on the fifth page of that suspect’s thread. Much more "monotone" and sounds a lot like Richard Gaikowski, who Nancy Slover said sounded just like Zodiac.

Welcome TommyT! I’m CathyO. I live in Napa, so near you in Vallejo, and new on here. I play in a poker league in Vallejo so I do venture there. Have some time on my hands too. Looking at the local Napa angle and Berryessa for reports, then will deep dive into Vallejo as that’s close. Have you been into the Vallejo Library – JFK? The newspaper is on microfilm there so I wanted to review it after doing our paper. Yours isn’t online yet.

Hopefully we can each find a neat clue that stands out from our town! For Vallejo, why is it thought the Zodiac was from Vallejo, is it because that’s where the first two murder scenes were (well not considering Riverside possibility)?

Thanks,

CathyO

CathyO, The JFK library has a binder that has every article printed in Vallejo on Zodiac. It is much easier to go to the desk and ask for it there, then make copies for yourself. Its about $20,00 if I remember correctly?
Not sure if Napa library has one from their paper or not? I lived in Napa and worked in Vallejo in the late 60’s, I’ve read pretty much every article at the main library’s in California where Zodiac had possible victims. JFK has the best collection of any library I been to. Their machines for reading microfilm are the worse of any library!

The best book I have read on the Zodiac cases is Mark G Hewitt’s "Hunted". The hard cover is only $20.00.Its not about a suspect like most of them , its about the victims and each known case. He will be at the Napa Library talking about Zodiac and the books he has written, I think in March? You can ask the librarian when he will be there. I hope to be going with a few of my friends. Very interesting stories from the people of Napa and Vallejo that show up. Hope to see you there.

That is a more recent interview where the suspect’s voice is older, so naturally different in tone.

Linked here is an interview with him from 2003: viewtopic.php?p=66730#p66730

He has a distinctly deep and "drawling" voice as described by Zodiac witnesses.

(Not linking directly as we should not throw around identities of living suspects).

Hi TommyT!

"JFK library has a binder that has every article printed in Vallejo on Zodiac"
thanks! I remembered from an article they had something but couldn’t remember what exactly. $20 is not bad. Currently, I’m just going through the Napa Valley Register day before, day of and day after the murder. Just to get a feel with a day in the life in 1969, what was local news, national news, local weather, Giants playing the Dodgers, what bars/restaurants/stores were open and when. I didn’t live here until 1993 after college. So comparing and contrasting what was around then to what businesses i’ve known. Looking for any interesting pattern, or a statistical anomaly. I had assumed that the killer had left Napa after the phone call on Main. But now wondering if he had stayed, at a bar or public place, blended in – warm evening, was a high of 96 degrees that day, so a nice warm evening, starting to cool off, but perhaps a bar had the door open for fresh air, and he could hear or see police and sheriff cars drive by, maybe that would be somewhat that extremely pleasured him. Will see.

"JFK has the best collection of any library I been to. Their machines for reading microfilm are the worse of any library!"
After I do the Register, I want to look at the Vallejo Times Herald. Do they have the old films there where you ask the librarian for a reel and look at it on the microfilm machine? I haven’t done that since the 80’s and 90’s.

"The best book I have read on the Zodiac cases is Mark G Hewitt’s "Hunted". The hard cover is only $20.00.Its not about a suspect like most of them , its about the victims and each known case. I just found his second book at the Napa Library: "Profiled: Book 2: Zodiac Examined" and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve had a hard time with some books, their writing, like the Graysmith book. Hewitt’s I found is more like a college textbook, and interesting. Part I section about different serial killers was very informative, with info on Bundy and others, doing a comparison and contrast. And he sometime signed this book at the library! His profile says he lives in Santa Rosa nearby. I’ll look for the dates when he’ll be here in March. Looks like he’ll be there this Saturday to go over the third book – but that’s his theory about his suspect Kacinski – I haven’t gotten there yet.

I can’t find a link for anything in March? Please let me know date and if library/bookstore. It would be delightful to meet you and others interested in this topic in person – I think easier to share ideas and memories regarding the Zodiac than online here.

Thank you!

CathyO
