In the film Zodiac (2007) the gloves are shown as found on the back seat.
Sandy, are we sure if the gloves were found on the floorboard or the
back seat?
I’m undecided as to whether the gloves were Zodiac’s. One thing that I think
has not been considered – if Zodiac donned gloves before shooting Stine, why
would he take them off? If I take the view that he did have gloves on, Zodiac
may have got blood on those gloves when he moved and shoved Stine’s body
about. It is not evident, unless you personally have experienced having
blood on, say, ansell plastic surgical-like gloves, that copious fresh blood can
be very slippery. If Zodiac had leather gloves on that were not rough leather
on their exterior, but smooth, he may have found it annoyingly difficult to
hold onto a knife handle to cut, say, Stine’s pockets or Stine’s shirt. If
frustration turned to anger (think Telegraph Avenue ‘flash of rage’ type anger),
he may have ripped off his bloody gloves (and tossed them on the back seat
or floor), then later, in the near panic of the moment, forgot to retrieve them
when leaving the taxi.
Also, driving type gloves may, or may not, have a Felt-like fabric stitched in
the interior of the glove, so even if he forgot them , he later may have not
been too unduly worried about the interior of his gloves as he may have later
thought (correctly) that it would not be likely that his fingerprints would be
held by any interior fabric insert. (Of course, DNA was not something
criminals would have taken into consideration, back in the ’60’s.)
They were found on the front floorboard of the cab. Zodiac was "not sitting in the back seat", he sat in the front! Of course he probably had gloves on when he shot Stine, but he had to take them off like I mentioned already, when he went into Stine’s pants pockets.
I have been on this computer too long today and I am becoming very frustrated, I am done for today.
More I think the more I am convinced that the zodiac was lucky and not clever. I believe he was brazen and not because he was brave but because, as Chappie describes in his well written synopsis on Kane, he has lost sensitivity to what he should be afraid of, do to his near fatal accident. Where he chose to kill Stine and how chose to attack at LB, these two were not sneaky in the slightest. Actually they were poor choices and could very easily resulted in his getting caught. I also believe Stines murder did not go as planned yet he still chose to do what he did after the murder, hanging around the car taking things and wiping down his finger prints which probably were the result of the plan going poorly.
Wales has got to be one of the most intermingled nations in Europe, but if I was forced to give a facial type I suppose there are one or two stereotypes that come to mind. The stocky working class rudgy player, fair skinned and with a big boofy head. The head could be round or blocky, but really it’s just plain big. There may be a slight propensity towards black hair, but really not so much.
That rudgy player look though… yes, it’s possible, it’s the one thing that might be cliche’ enough to travel around the world and pop into Foukes head. I know in reality that Welsh people probably play more soccer, but in old movies they’re often portrayed as thuggish and large, which is probably more to do with old timey racism.
I think the key is to think how they’re portrayed in films and television. Thugs in old British films were often cast as Irish, Scottish, or Welsh, anything other than English. Working class, poor, lower class. The racism runs pretty thick. If I’m entirely honest when I picture Welsh people I generally think of character like Crab and Goyle from Harry Potter, or Vinne Jones when he was more bulky. Those characters probably aren’t Welsh in the films and they probably aren’t even played by Welsh people, but it’s that idea of the stocky working class guy with the a really big head.
I could understand someone seeing those features a little in Kane, but not if you knew what a Jewish people look like. Fouke is American, he’s far more likely to describe Kane as Jewish. There’s only one suspect who to me looks like a Welsh rugby player.
That has to be the most ridiculous post on this website by a country mile. Go to Wales, you’ll see they are exactly the same as the English and the Irish. Which British films show the bad guy to be Scottish, Irish or Welsh but never English? I know of none.
A very broad smear saying the English are racist. We’re the ones who stood up to Hitler and started the war on slavery.
Your response is exactly what I was getting at. It is incredibly strange that Fouke would choose Welsh. As you say, what on earth is the difference between a Welsh person and an English person? I don’t know, but evidently Fouke saw a difference.
I was discussing racial stereotypes from the perspective of a San Francisco cop living in the 1960’s. I’m trying to imagine what Fouke saw.
Having said that there are Welsh stereotypes occasionally portrayed in films. The fact that you haven’t seen any is more of a reflection on your own lack of exposure than mine.
AK Wilks said, in this thread, that Kane has Sephardic Jewish looks. However, the surnames Kane and Klein are Ashkenazi Jewish surnames. Although Kane’s mother could have been Sephardi. I don’t know what her surname was before she married.
Over the last few weeks Lawrence Kane has become increasingly suspicious to me, tho I wonder if he was clever enough with the writings. I think people have suggested him working with Allen and I could see that.
As far as his look…who knows, but I guess Foulke, himself, was Welsh? That would likely be the reason for him choosing what would appear to be random.

Twas Benjamin
I am wondering that myself. To me Lawrence Kane seems like the best suspect. I have only heard that he doesn’t have the exact hair color mentioned in some accounts.
What I find interesting is that a trait of Kane which people found notable was that he had suffered head trauma/brain damage in an automobile accident. That head trauma is something I have also found plausible in my own research, although with a different newer POI. So the head trauma trait was going on long before I did my own research.
What is also interesting is that Charles Whitman: The Texas Bell Tower Sniper, on in August 1966, two months before the murder of CJB, was stopped fatally during the spree shooting. The autopsy noted that Whitman had a tumor in his brain and hypothetically this may have caused aggressive factors in his personality emerging.
Furthermore the Movie Targets (1968) borrowed heavily from the Whitman case and features the brand ammo Super-X.

@sandy-betts Hi Sandy, what leads you to say that the Zodiac was sitting in the front of the cab?
