I like the idea that the cross hairs are actually the wheel from the Tim Holt comic. The four quarters representing Gun, Knife, Rope & Fire. And I can certainly accept that the Robert Domingos/Linda Edwards murder was Zodiac – it has all the elements, tying up with rope, killing with the gun, cutting the clothing with the knife and attempting to burn the bodies in the shack. And very similar MO to Lake Berryessa.
I read someone suggesting possible link between the first suspected killing, CHERI Bates, and the Stine murder yards short of CHERRY Street as interesting – Cheri & Cherry. And given the killers sense of puzzles actually more interesting the more I thought about it.
Something I would like to throw out there…. there is mention of Ross Sullivan working at the Riverside CC library. The poem etched on the table seems to be written before the discovery of the body since it suggests Bates will be found and will live. Would Sullivan not have been able to get back into the library that same evening and write it since he worked there? This is the days before high security alarms and doors. And why do people think it was the face of the killer that the skin was scratched from? Could it have been the arms for instance? The watch does seem to have been torn off the killer.
I don’t think the 1978 letter is genuine and that does also mean the death of Sullivan in 1977 would explain the end of the killings. And boy does he match the police sketches and the descriptions. And so many other things. Of the generally recognized suspects, he and Allen (with a wig) are the only possibles for me. With Kane a disant third.
I think it will take DNA breakthroughs, maybe genealogy sites to solve the case if it is. Or if the ciphers actually hold more information than first apparent.
ANyway, I would love to hear from anyone about my thoughts. Take care folks. Bye

Hi. The long and the short of the desk poem is, we don’t know when it was actually written, or if it was meant to be found, or linked to Cheri’s case. It was discovered by a custodian the December after the murder. He felt it was creepy and may be related to the Bates murder, and turned it into police. It was on the underneath side of the desk and the only reason he saw it was because it was stacked upside down in storage. Those desks were thought to have come from the RCC library and/or music room

Cheers

My point is that as far as the time of the poem’s creation goes; it mentions the woman likely to be found and survive. Seeing as Bates was clearly known to be dead by the next morning, for the poem to be about her suggests the killer returned to the library between the attack and her discovery 9.30 am next morning and wrote it. After that time it would be known she did’nt survive.

But firstly this would be a risky move by the killer. Secondly, I dont think the poem is about Bates – it describes a red dress but Bates, while wearing Capris (short trousers) had on a pale yellow dress. So the poem could have been written at anytime about wither another attack or its fiction/hoax. Therefore killer probably is making in the car heard after Bates scream.

On another point, is it possible that Bates’ killer used a gun to get her to leave her car, windows down and books on seat, and then switched to his chosen method of murder according to his pre planned game plan (Tim Holt game) the knife, as Zodiac did at Lake Berryessa? It would also explain why a smart girl like Bates would walk up that creepy driveway. And the confession letter was probably lying when suggesting she was meek in resisting the attack. Guy does have inferioirty issues after all and would want to disparrage a small woman who put up an apparently very good fight.
