Hey all, I am happy to report that I have teamed up with Richard Grinell of ZodiacCiphers.com to do an in depth Zodiac Podcast called, ‘Zodiac Speaking’ which launches March 13, 2021. New episodes will launch every other Saturday, and be available on your favorite podcast players and apps. You can also listen here: https://www.spreaker.com/show/zodiac-speaking

We will start out with a basic overview of the case and the attacks, and then circle back for more in depth analysis of each crime, the letters, ciphers, suspects, and clues. For many hardcore Zodiac people here, this may not be anything new, but for the casual true crime podcast listener, there should be plenty of stuff that they have not heard before.

Morf, will you guys be having guests on? Like will it be an interview format? Or will it be an investigative podcast where you guys visit the crimes scenes and meet with investigators? Or will it be like Criminology where you guys just discuss the facts of the case?

Visiting the crime scenes and meeting investigators is out of the question being in lockdown in the UK. Michael stated "for many hardcore Zodiac people here, this may not be anything new", but while we will cover the basics (as we have to), it certainly won’t be a routine retelling of events. It may be less new for people who are familiar with my site, but I will definitely not be sticking with the old Zodiac story narrative, much of which I don’t agree with. This applies to the crimes and communications, many of which have been dismissed as hoaxes, that I don’t buy into. The "less covered" Zodiac communications not believed to have been penned by the killer will feature as we travel through the timeline. The last thing Mike and I want to do, is just recreate a different version of everything that has gone before. Mike and I will no doubt disagree on some of the topics we cover, but that won’t stop either of us presenting our case. The person listening can then decide which side of the fence they fall. I will also add material that requires an answer by the listener, in regards to elements of each crime that make no sense. Discussing the facts of the case relies on what each of us believes to be a fact. This will become evident when the Presidio Heights murder is discussed. Mike and I have both agreed to cover the basics, yet we don’t want to bore people to death with the the same old story. Once we have got to say 2001, we will return and hopefully go into even more detail.

Also, Mike is used to this format of podcasting, so it may take me a few episodes to find my feet.

We can definitely have remote guests on via Skype, Zoom, etc. We are not opposed to that for various topics and we will have Q&A’s etc

Good job, for starters.

Some good points that I personally agree (or disagree along with you) with that came across:

<there will be spoilers, sorry> – so don’t read below if you want to hear the podcast first

Lake Herman Road:
+ very precise overall refreshment of that night’s events
– altough I don’t know what’s so unexpected about the shooter to sat and wait in his car for the "coast to be clear"
– I don’t subscribe to the two shooters theory but it’s possibility is worth mention at least

Blue Rock Springs – I agree:
+ that there was no silencer (there was no need for it really)
+ that Darlene could’ve wanted to escape, but she didn’t got the time to execute it
+ that she probably was targeted first, contrary to what the killer had written (again)
+ that he might have known her (and she might have known him) – that didn’t came across, but I think you guys definately gonna get back to it later
+ that he (the Zodiac) was from Vallejo – and not only the topography of the killings strongly suggest it, also the points that Rich pointed out (psychological slip of hand in the letter + also mailing most of his letters from outside of Vallejo to hide he was actually from Vallejo)
+ that he might have and probably went into his house (or basement) to change clothes, dump the gun and leave his car behind or switch cars (as Morf did suggest in the podcast) before he got to the phone booth
+ that he could hear the phone ringing and confirmed his car was brown only because he was on foot (Rich)

Keep it up, guys. Looking forward to hear more from you both.

And as for whole my sympathy for the late Russ Butterbach – he really shouldn’t do that (he pocket one of the casings). If he wanted a souvenir, should’ve taken a rock. But again, what’s done is done.

The first two episodes were a treat! Very interesting discussions on points of detail that are rarely discussed elsewhere (the description of the possible movements of the zodiac after brs and the supposed black witness, were fabulously detailed). I enjoyed it! Don’t change anything it was perfect !!! I just had a little bit of trouble to follow the discussion on the LHR cartridges but I’m french so it’s normal ;)

Mike did the Criminology podcast, then we had Monster and A to Z, all excellent and covering the Zodiac story very well. There would be absolutely no point in just releasing another version of the same story, that has been told endless times before in podcasts and Youtube presentations. Each podcast will carry the known story, which is customary, but virtually every communication will be covered, whether authenticated or not, along with some brand new topics never discussed before on podcasts. We will not be sticking to the conventional narrative. Some may agree, others won’t, but it’s important something new is presented.

A few scattered thoughts:

1) I don’t think the person I am about to mention is the Zodiac. He was too short and described as skinny. But I am aware of a So Cal serial killer known for shooting victims either behind the ear or in the temple above the ear. The details vary from source to source. Some sources say he was taught to do that by his father when killing pigs. So perhaps Zodiac was taught the same thing.

2) When I was researching aerospace companies, I took a look at cerium (the cerous thing in the letter). I wanted to see what industries used cerium or related compounds. It turned out it’s used in several industries theorized as a Z work sector, so it didn’t help narrow things down much. I believe one industry is oil refining.

https://www.nyacol.com/products/cerium-oxide/

NyaCat 20 is a dispersion of 15 nm ceria in Isopar L. The product can be used in coatings or as a diesel fuel additive or as an FCC additive in the oil refinery.

(To be clear, I don’t find the James Owen stuff to be anything suspicious. But I thought I would pass it along.)

3) In a couple of threads we’ve been working on together, AK Wilks drew attention to several other unsolved cases involving 6 right twists, JC Higgins pistol, 22 LR ammo.
