When the actual Zodiac is identified and Voigt realizes he has nothing to do with Gaikowski, we’re all gonna have a ball! ^^

I’d hope we’d actually be interested in his identification and hopefully prosecution, not whether he turns out to be anyone’s suspect.

I hope I’m that noble and magnanimous. However, at this point, it’s awfully hard not to root for someone’s suspects to be ruled out when that somebody attacks you for supporting them.

Morf’s statement is slightly confusing.

"My Zodiac Police source, "Pump the brakes on the Zodiac DNA rumors" that there are no new developments".

Does that mean Morf was instructed by LE to get rid of the DNA rumors?

Or is the ‘pump the brakes’ Morf’s own assessment?

And the ‘that there are no new developments’ part – is that Morf’s own statement, or did that specific statement come from LE?

"Pump the brakes" is the quote from Law Enforcement. Take that how you will

It was more than that, but essentially there is not genealogy work going on with the Zodiac case

Would genealogy work always be required?

What if someone were positively identified via dna and their name was able to be determined a/c match? Then other information could be obtained (including names of possible relatives)?

In my opinion, the only way this case gets solved is if DNA is developed from Zodiac, and matched thru genealogy to a suspect. The days of saying a guy looks Zodiac, or his handwriting does…are long gone. Also, I think by now we can give up on the entire dream scenario where a relative discovers Zodiac’s diary, hood, weapons, ciphers, etc

If DNA doesn’t get it done, it won’t be solved

Thanks Morf. That would tell me that DNA may have indeed been found, but that so far it hasn’t resulted in a profile being successfully developed.

ITA but my question remains!!!

Does DNA always require geneological research which is very time consuming? Isn’t it possible that someone can be identified if their dna is already in the data base (due to maybe a prior offense)?

If that was the case, relatives would not be needed for identification or if needed for some other reason they could probably be located through other means?

If the suspect was in Codis, or LE otherwise had a sample of their DNA (or possibly an immediate relative’s) then genealogy work wouldn’t be required.

Well, if they develop a profile I’m assuming the first they will do is run it through CODIS to see if they get a match. If that doesn’t produce a hit then they go the geneology route.

I agree that if DNA doesn’t do it nothing will. If this effort by Vallejo doesn’t work it might be time for all the jurisdictions to make all their files public and hope something comes from that in a Hail Mary move.

If a relative were needed for a positive identification, would a male first cousin suffice? A cousin whose mother was the sister of poi’s father? Or the female children of said cousin, for example?

Sorry but my grasp of this is very limited and I get confused re. maternal dna, etc.

Sorry, what do you mean by a relative being needed for positive ID?
