The discovery of a dead body buried near the waterfront in South Vallejo on Friday night is being investigated as a possible homicide, police said Saturday.
The nature of the death was unknown. No information was released regarding the age, race or sex of the victim.
Vallejo police said a citizen reported about 7 p.m. Friday he found what he believed to be a body buried west of Derr Street near Lemon Street. Officers arrived on the scene and also believed the discovery was of human remains.
Vallejo detectives and Napa County Sheriff’s Crime Scene investigators began collecting evidence at the scene, which was secured until daylight on Saturday. Police said the investigation is ongoing and is being investigated as a homicide until that possibility is ruled out.

On Monday, July 1, 2013, a body was found floating in the Carquinez Strait east of the Benicia Bridge.
