Speculation that Tamerlan Tsarnaev may have been involved in a 2011 triple murder. Interesting that he didn’t attend his friend’s funeral, and I read on another site that the bodies were discovered on September 12th. And there was no forced entry into the apartment.

Very interesting reading, and a good reminder of how quickly things can get out of control based on little information.

Also looking at the Texas DA murders, Richard Jewel and others I think there are serious lessons to be learned about reaching conclusions based on incomplete and evolving information in this case and every case. Vigilante attacks and personal information should be avoided of course. But IMO the problem is less with Reddit and other online communities, which have a fairly small reach and usually state they are speculating or exploring a possible idea or theory, and much more with the NY Post and other major professional media taking such incomplete speculation and putting it on the front page of a newspaper as fact. Then the major media turns around and blames Reddit and 4chan in an effort to absolve themselves.

There were also threads, posts and evidence posted on Reddit showing the exact opposite of the mentioned threads. Also online sleuths were right about other things, including finding the pictures of the suspects at the bombs site, pictures the FBI did not have. I do think online sleuthing and picture examination and discussion may be much better suited to a cold case like Zodiac, were the information is fairly stable and not subject to changes by the minute. One mystery for me is why certain names were read over the police scanner, as if one suspect had a fake ID in that name. But police make mistakes as well. I also heard on the scanner police saying a Mass State Police SUV had been taken, but that was apparently incorrect.

Those are federal charges, I assume there will be state charges for the chase, shoot out and murder of the MIT police officer.

Tsarnev nodded his head when asked if he understood what was happening. When the judge asked him if he could afford a lawyer he said "no." He agreed to voluntary detention and did not request bail. The judge read him his "Miranda" rights.
