This is disgusting. Guy was a five time felon, illegally in the US. Previously deported numerous times but kept returning. Sanctuary city officials should be held accountable. (Just my un- Humble opinion).

You seem to be more mad about the immigration issue than the murder. I think this might go against the board rules for not discussing politics.

Completely WRONG. I support legal immigration.
I do not support harboring criminals.
The murder of this innocent young lady is shameful.

That whole story makes me cringe. I’m outraged!

A friend of mine’s husband is a guard at San Quentin. You should hear the stories. Many of these people who should no longer be allowed to breathe cost us millions and they sue the State of California if the guards even so much as look at them wrong. It’s disgusting.

I don’t know when the tides turned, but because of so much leniency, murderers, rapists, etc., are allowed to just walk freely and we end up with good-hearted people like this young woman dead for no reason at all.

Not against immigration, when done the proper way!
I’m against illegal immigration. Illegal means illegal, sending a bad message to our children!!

I think you are right about the political component in discussing this topic, Duck. It is too difficult to maneuver around without the politics of our immigration laws coming into play. For me the discussion would also involve religion, another topic that is best avoided.

This guy is a seven time felon, he should not have been on any city’s streets regardless of his nationality or immigrant status. The situation is not unlike the drunk driver who has been arrested and convicted multiple times for DUIs only to go out and drive drunk again. It is only when the drunk driver kills someone that people become outraged.

Felons are nothing new. Prisons are full of them and rightly so, but for a city to blatantly give the proverbial finger to federal law by proclaiming itself as a sanctuary designed to give what amounts to as protection from prosecution is deplorable.
I don’t see the murder of an innocent young women by a convicted felon as being political, I simply see it as wrong – Damn wrong because it could have and should have been prevented.

San Francisco is not the only city in the US to offer sanctuary to immigrants. There are many more and it has been a practice since the 1980s. Have there been any other murders committed by immigrants who have stayed in the US and skirted immigration laws by staying in cities that offer sanctuary? Probably.

Here are some of the cities that offer sanctuary, I think the list will surprise some people because not all the cities are what would be considered liberal. From the wiki page on sanctuary cities.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctuary_city

"Certain cities in the United States began designating themselves as sanctuary cities during the 1980s.[1] The policy was first initiated in 1979 in Los Angeles, to prevent police from inquiring about the immigration status of arrestees. The internal policy, "Special Order 40," states: "Officers shall not initiate police action with the objective of discovering the alien status of a person. Officers shall not arrest nor book persons for violation of title 8, section 1325 of the United States Immigration code (Illegal Entry)."[2] Some of the 31 American cities are Washington, D.C.; New York City (see also Illegal immigration in New York City); Jersey City; Los Angeles; Philadelphia, San Francisco; Santa Ana; San Diego; San Jose; Oakland; Salt Lake City; El Paso; Houston; Detroit; Chicago; Salinas, California; Minneapolis; Miami; Denver; Baltimore; Seattle; Portland, Oregon; New Haven; Somerville; Cambridge; Portland, Maine; and Tulsa.[3] These cities have adopted "sanctuary" ordinances banning city employees and police officers from asking people about their immigration status.[4][5]

In Canada, Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, have declared themselves as sanctuary cities since 2014."

Two wrongs don’t make a right… It is about a city willfully and knowingly harboring a felon – now murderer. You might see it as political, I see it as criminal.

Not political just my personal experience
In 02 I took a office job at a engine rebuilding plant for a national company’s fleet as a tech line oper. and warranty clerk.
the work force was 70% hispanic ,25% asian , pacific islanders and the rest of arabic background , almost none spoke english . the work force was around 70-80.
They did not pay much so few people from KC applied ,some did and most were good workers but all quit as these immigrant groups would run them out by intimidation. Note :most of them were here illegally or temp on work visas.
a lot of fake SS cards I was told .
ICE came to the factory one day lookong for a certain person and most of the personel dissapeared out the back .
There were all kinds of fighting claims in these workers groups ( the hispanics worked one line the asians worked another ,no way they would work together ) from one threatening he was going to get another, to fist fights ,to a knife produced .
The two malasian IT personel sprayed degreaser on my cars brake rotors almost killing me once.
The shop foreman a guy in his 20’s was asked if he wanted a hispanic man to work there again because he was fired for knocking this foreman out cold years before ,he hired him anyway.

We cannot own land in Mexico but they are free to here, in Brazil you need a $40k verifiable income to live there
the SF immigrant who killed the woman case ,seems to me to be a dereliction of duty and charges should be filed against someone .

Talon, I’m not saying that the situation is right. Going by what you titled the thread it appears that you believe that offering sanctuary to illegal immigrants is something unique to California. All cities that offer this brand of sanctuary should do some serious rethinking of the practice. Also, you might want to explore if some of these other cities outside of California to see if murders have been committed by illegal immigrants, if so, ask yourself why this issue has never been in the forefront before now and what you can do about it.

I think ‘progressives’ in the UK are called politically correct ‘do gooders’, who are people who give more rights to the criminal than the law abiding citizen. Somebody should be held accountable, but unfortunately they never are. Now I don’t want to be insensitive here, as the guy was a loser, but make guns as easy to access as you do in America and it’s no wonder people are killed every minute of every day. I know this statement will make me unpopular with a lot of people on this forum, but guns kill and humans cannot be trusted with them, sane, insane or the Zodiac. This woman, may she rest in peace, was a victim of a gun culture. Hate me all you like, but it’s the truth. All we have to do is now wait for another lunatic to go on the rampage with an Uzi in the next few weeks.

I am fully aware that the sanctuary city is not unique to California. However this incident did occur in California. I assume by your response, seagull, you live in California. I was simply pointing out that residences
of the state should at least question the logic which directly lead to the death of an innocent person. I stand by my observatons and I respect yours.

Unfortunately, it goes far beyond gun laws. Criminals will get a gun regardless.
It does directly reflect the idiotic and irresponsibile thinking of the powers that be in one "sanctuary city".

I’m outraged the second a drunk gets behind the wheel and starts to roll! I’ll turn someone in in a heartbeat if they appear to be drunk. :x
