He lived in close proximity to Madeline’s disappearance and was convicted of the rape of a 72-year-old woman at the same resort.
If the parents were the guilty party, it might make sense for them to lead the initial search efforts in the early days of the investigation. In fact that kind of misdirection is not uncommon, for example Scott Peterson comes to mind. But whilst it might be initially advantageous for the guilty party to feign the appearance of assisting the search, at a certain point it becomes more advantageous for the guilty party in the scenario to let the case go cold naturally.
I mean the McCann’s have reignited dormant interest in the case constantly over the years, sparking renewed interest and investigation, that otherwise would probably have never occurred. Now perhaps this was part of their master plan all along, safe in the knowledge no one would ever find a smoking gun they devoted the rest of their lives to constructing this facade. But that just seems like the Rube Goldberg machine of machinations.

He lived very close to the abduction site, took a long phone call from a mystery acquaintance just before the abduction and then suspiciously changed the registration details of his car to someone in Germany the next morning (even though he continued to own and use the car for some time) and left the country shortly after.
He’s also been proven to boast about abducting & murdering kids to other paedophiles and allegedly told an ex-girlfriend that he had a horrible but lucrative job to do on the night of the abduction. It’s circumstantial but sounds pretty compelling to me. I personally believe that German law enforcement have video footage of her murder but need the body to prosecute him as perhaps he is masked in the video and he could argue that it’s not him and they can’t prove it without finding that crime scene to test it or finding her body.

Even if the killer’s face was not visible in a video, there could still be identifying features implicating Brueckner (i.e. scars, moles, birth marks, appearance of genitals, layout of the crime scene). But an arrest may be necessary to justify collection of evidence, like forcing him to strip naked to take photos.

So what’s your scenario? Little Maddie dies by accident, the parents freak out and hide the body, then pretend she was abducted? The investigations show all the parents were seen at the restaurant that night, taking turns to check on the kids back at the hotel, which takes 10 minutes at most each time. So when do they have the time to drive away to go hide the body, especially in a place where it wasn’t found for the last 13 years? Not the night of the disappearance, that’s for sure. During the following days? Impossible, according to me, because the families were constantly with the police. Conclusion, there is something wrong with your theory, imo.

Have to agree with this statement I too was wondering about the McCanns especially with not wanting to answer police questions at the time, this German does sound very dodgy, the McCanns are guilty, guilty for leaving their children unattended while they were living it up with fine dining and wine 
Brueckner is refusing to voluntarily speak to LE about Madeline’s disappearance. Doesn’t sound too innocent.
