There were two James Mayfield’s in the social security death index that died in California in 2010 or after. One born in 1940, too old. One born in 1971, too young. This James Mayfield would be 67 years old today so born about 1946.

Thanks Seagull ;)

Jury selection was scheduled to start on July 15, 2013. I do not know if that occurred. Judge Charles Haines presiding, SF Superior Court.

Thanks for the update nicsan818! That’s great news!

So apparently it was delayed due to the Gascon/DNA appeal?

Hello,

I am new to the board, but wanted to share some current info on the case with everyone. Two weeks ago, I was selected for jury duty and almost became an alternate juror for this trial-taking place here in S.F. The judge told us the case would start on September 23, and during the week-long selection process, I had to fill out a questionnaire about my understanding and thoughts around people who are accused of crimes involving sexual abuse. I was then asked to discuss my feeling about the reliability of DNA, circumstantial evidence. They explained there would be some graphic details during the trial, and I must say that Mr. Mayfield seemed very calm and collected. I was excused because my potential bias from having knowledge of some of the legal issues surrounding the S.F. crime lab technician’s misconduct. I hope if he is found guilty that the family will find some closure and peace, but the case seems to hang on this DNA that reports say maybe questionable.

Thank you so much for your post and insight into this case. I know at least a few of us will try to follow what is happening. It’s unfortunate that a conviction in this case might very well be elusive because of the conduct of one employee. The ripple effect of her actions has been enormous.

Thank you for the update. I was surprised to learn it took the jury just one day to find him guilty.
