Dear God. I was profoundly affected by John Fowles "The Collector" when I first read it, but I never dreamed that someone could follow through on the premise in real life and get away with it for such a long time.
And now three cases in three different parts of the world? In reasonably quick succession? Unbelievable.
Wonderful that they’ve been released.

This case is going to be interesting as it unfolds. There are many news stories with various information. One said that there were children in the home so maybe one or more of the kidnapped women had children by the brothers that have been arrested. The uncle of the men said his family was friends with one of the victim’s families.

I’m so glad they are all alive but it’s going to be a hard road ahead for them.

Who knows what might have happened had he done nothing and that SOB came home and realized she had gotten out.

I agree, his interview was great. Loved how he talked through it even the bit about trying to pry the door "of course that didn’t work" lol. Reminds me a little of Reginald D Hunter and the way he speaks and his delivery.

This statement brothers me: _ November 2011: A neighbor, Israel Lugo, said he heard pounding on some of the doors of Castro’s house, which had plastic bags on the windows. Lugo said officers knocked on the front door, but no one answered. Officers walked around outside the house and left, Lugo said.

This is sad also, that Amanda’s Mom passed away a few years prior.

_ March 2, 2006: Miller, 43, dies after being hospitalized with pancreatitis and other ailments. She had spent the previous three years looking for her daughter.

I thought that too Zam about the dispatch but that was when I’d only read the transcript of it. Hearing that actual recording though it doesn’t seem that bad at all. You have to remember that when a call comes into the dispatcher/operator they don’t know what they are going to hear so they have to weed out the most important information very quickly so they can assist. They don’t have time for extraneous information no matter how interesting it is.

EDIT: Just to add, thanks for posting the previous Zam, That’s weird, the daughter being with her so soon before she disappeared. I’m sure in time we’ll see the dynamics of how this worked and what it means.

Just thankful that they are free, hopefully there is something in all of this that might change how other cases are looked at.

And the police went to the house twice, not once but twice. And they never went in the house to investigate?

Two neighbors said they called police to the Castro house on separate occasions.

Elsie Cintron, who lives three houses away, said her daughter once saw a naked woman crawling on her hands and knees in the backyard several years ago and called police. "But they didn’t take it seriously," she said.

Another neighbor, Israel Lugo, said he heard pounding on some of the doors of the house in November 2011. Lugo said officers knocked on the front door, but no one answered. "They walked to side of the house and then left," he said.

Neighbors also said they would see Castro sometimes walking a little girl to a neighborhood playground. And Cintron said she once saw a little girl looking out of the attic window of the house.

Police did go to the house twice in the past 15 years, but not in connection with the women’s disappearance, officials said.

This reminds me of the Jaycee Dugard case. Kept for so many yrs even after neighbors called the police. So very sad , but I am glad that they are safe now. I hope the jails in Ohio will put the kidnapers in with the general population and not protect them like the jails in Calif.do, so they can see what it is like to be raped for many yrs.
