Or it could be nothing. Trick of the eye. Odd lighting. Compression artifacts.
Oh yes – absolutely. That picture proves nothing either way, it could be anything – distortion, resolution issue, trick of the light, etc.
But even if we could conclude safely that his glasses are not in the picture, that doesn’t mean they’re not in the cab – or near the cab, or…wherever. Stine lost them at some point, either because Z took them, or because they fell off in the commotion, or even because the medic/ambulance steward took them off him for some reason.
Hi-
Toschi told me in late 2002 that the glasses were found mangled under Stine’s body. However, I don’t think he was necessarily telling me the truth. In fact, I don’t believe he was telling me the truth.

Curious, what made you think he was lying? That scenario could make sense. If the glasses fell off when he was shot, and Z dragged his body across the seat, I could see them getting mangled

Interesting, Mike!
I’d love to hear some elaboration on it, if you can say anything more.
The thing which sprang to mind when I read your post was the well-known Toschi claim that he has something, some little detail, which is known to only Z and him (well, I suppose “him” could mean more than him personally).
If he knows for a fact that Z ran – or rather walked – off with Stine’s glasses, I suppose that could be such a thing.
In fact, I don’t believe he was telling me the truth.
An elaboration for why you think he wasn’t telling the truth would be nice.
Hi-
I found Toschi to be a game player. He strung me along in 2002-3. I started speaking to him after the ABC show in October 2002 and he was very encouraging. He said he would meet with me when I went out there in 2003. Then when I arrived and called him his secretary told me he was "too busy" to meet with me during the entire week I was out there. She said he wished me a pleasant stay in SF. He couldn’t even bother to speak to me himself. (Actually, it turned out to be a pleasant stay, because that was the week Jim and I went to PH and Jim got to speak to the Robbins kids.) The glasses were not on the property report from the morgue. Why not? It could be he was telling the truth. Don’t know. I just didn’t have a good vibe from the guy. You’d need to find proof that SFPD had located them and that they have them.

The watch isn’t on the property sheet either, but it’s clearly there in the crime scene photos. Perhaps some personal possessions were immediately released to Stine’s family, whereas others were retained for evidence and forensics. Perhaps there are two such property sheets and we’ve seen but one.
That is, perhaps the glasses and watch are included on another property sheet we have not seen.
And is there some distinct reason you do not believe Toschi regarding the glasses?

It is true that family prefers to have their loved one dressed for their burial as they would be in life. The glasses would be necessary for that but I don’t know what kind of service Paul Stine had or if the glasses would have been returned immediately to the family for that reason.
That’s a good point.
The listing/recording problem still remains, however. A ring is listed – his watch and glasses are not. And his watch is visibly on his wrist in the CS pictures – so why that should belong in a different category (from the ring, the keys and the papers), I have no idea.
If the glasses were in the cab somewhere, I suppose they might technically count as something different than the items found on his actual person – which could account for them not being listed in that particular report.
But I saw them on his face in (only one) crime scene photo. I had to blow it right up, but, in my opinion, there they were. I must have been more stoned than usual. Or had a bad pie.

A few minutes ago on a toilet not very far, far away….
I have attempted to highlight the floorboard area to get a better view of the possible glasses.
If you listen to the DVD commentary track (the producer and writer) of the 2007 Zodiac film. They talk about how they learned Stine’s glasses were never recovered from the crime scene.
