I’m curious what evidence we have to tie any Z suspect, and perhaps specifically Sullivan, to firearms? This comes up a lot with Gaik. Do we know Ross owned or shot guns? I am asking sincerely.

Back in the the day firearms were easy to get ahold of, in fact prior to the 1968 gun control act guns could be ordered
through the mail and delivered to your front door with no paper work!

The biggest issue and not his weight is did Ross ever have a driver license and link to any cars ? As for RG others know more about him then I do! as for firearms don’t think either can be link to proving owning any!

Yes but this would seemingly apply to both Gaik and Ross or any other suspect for that matter. My point being I am not sure I follow this idea of having proof of someone using firearms.

Yeah, I guess there is no way to know if Ross was taught to use firearms or not, the only one who might know would be his brother
Jon and he’s not talking. my point being guns were easy to get and fairly easy to teach oneself how to use.

As far as Gaik goes he was in the military so he would have had firearms training in boot camp/basic training.

In my opinion, if Z had any kind of military experience, Mike Mageau would have been killed at BRS.

It’s almost hard to believe Mike could’ve been shot so many times and survived. Obviously the shooter wasn’t very adept at knowing where to aim. He was, after all, in total control of the situation, at very close range, shooting at a basically stationary target, and acting as though he had all the time in the world to reload and return to shoot some more. A military guy would’ve mixed a head or heart shot in there somewhere, wouldn’t he?

Yes, Mike was shot up real bad, it’s a true miracle he survived.

I don’t think it’s impossible that a guy who was in the army (in whatever capacity) wasn’t a great shot (with a small firearm at that).

But it seems obvious that what Zodiac did, as a marksman (so to speak) doesn’t indicate that he was particularly good at it, quite to the contrary. So, I would rule out anyone with special training, etc.

My guess is that he wasn’t very good, period. Just a guy who wanted to shoot someone, as it were. Whether he was in the army or not doesn’t really come into it – for me. He could have been, but if he was, he clearly wasn’t a well trained shooter.

Yes, this is true. I shouldn’t assume everyone who served in the military received small arms training. My point was that I don’t think it’s a good idea to focus on guys who served in the military. But we shouldn’t exclude them either.

Norse said it better than I can.

so basically zero evidence for Gaik?

why is this guy even a suspect at all?

Why do we have other names on the list that are clearly not the zodiac? Nothing matches Ala but he has his own thread and the talks go on. Not trying to offend but if the gloves don’t fit……

I’ve been saying that stuff for years, but there’s a very vocal contingent of participants in this case that really enjoy a though experiment. Although I don’t really appreciate them (and I have been a little rough on some of those people in the past), different strokes for different folks. Kind of like how chess problems are really "chess". But some people love them.

It’s pretty hard to change some people’s minds about their favorite suspects, even if none of the evidence fits.

I’ll say this for Gaik, there is an eerie similarity in phrasing in some of the letters to some of his articles in Good Times. That doesn’t mean it was him. It could just mean that Zodiac liked to read Good Times. We know Zodiac liked to read the paper. And it especially doesn’t put Gaik in California during the first murder, when he was living in Albany until close to then and appears to have been in Ireland during or at least shortly thereafter.
