Was checking out some links at the History channel site today and came across a news story about the Domingo Edwards murder. The article was from 1972 and the Santa Barbara Sheriff and a Detective held a news conference announced they believed Zodiac was connected to the D/E slayings. This part caught my eye…
"References made in a confession letter about the killing of Miss Bates which was sent to the Press-Enterprise and Riverside police, "which could be construed as being similar to ours"
"Baker (Detective) would not discuss which sections of the type written confession letter he was referring to. Baker said there are no strong similarities between the circumstances of Miss Bates murder and the Domingo-Edwards slayings however."
What the heck could be in the Bates confession letter that might be similar to the D/E murders? The only thing I can figure is that Edwards had her bathing suit cut to expose her breasts and the confession letter mentions CJB’s breasts.
Here’s a link to where I found the newspaper report.

Link to the newspaper report, the part I’m referring to is in the second link as it is a two part link. Including both in case some haven’t seen it.

Confession letter
I can’t figure it out either – the only thing that comes to mind are the breasts. Linda’s bathing suit was cut open from the front, revealing her breasts. Maybe the policeman felt that the line "I shall cut off her female parts and deposit them for the whole city to see" in the Confession letter had some similarity to that.
The Confession Letter sounds more like the Lipstick Killer case, imo.
Confessions, depositing body parts…. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=888&start=10
I, too, don’t really see a link between the Bates and Domingo/Edwards case.

I wonder if they got fingerprints because of that. Seems they would have said they were certain they were killed by the same person if they matched the prints from CJB’s car though, so maybe not. I don’t see why they would have withheld that info it they had found prints that matched.

I wonder if we got to see the entire confession letter or if they held some back.

Yeah, it didn’t make any sense to me. I know this is old news however and thought perhaps the veterans here might know something.
