By the way, I had corresponded previously with Darlene’s husband via email(years ago), and I recently emailed him again to see if he happened to know Ross in any way from his Santa Cruz days, and he didn’t respond
I take it you mean Phillips/Crabtree, not Dean??
Ok, that is very interesting. One of the ads mentions they sell "Zodiac" stationery!

When did he start using the name Zodiac? The August 4th 1969 letter? That’s only a few weeks after that ad ran.
Good finds!
Here is a photo of that Zodiac Stationary:

I went back to the Santa Cruz Polk’s Directory for 1968 and looked up the address where Ross lived. The building had three apartments then, as it does now. Ross was not listed as living at that address but they do not put multiple people’s names in the address directory portion. As has been said previously in the thread, Ross probably had a roommate in order to be able to afford living there.
It looks like Terry Kennedy may have been Ross’s roommate.

BTW, there was a stationary store in Santa Cruz a very short walk from Ross’s place.
Remember, Katz mentioned Ross was into "art painting." Considering how close he lived, the odds are very high he would shop at this place.
More than the "art" aspect it’s also good to note that they carried drafting supplies. I’m specifically thinking about the materials possibly used to construct the ciphers.

Hmm. Good work, worth looking into. Wish the name was a bit more uncommon.

It seems that the roommate also worked in food service at the university.
I know what you mean about the common name, Morf. It could be Terry, Terrence or Terrance, too, and we don’t know how old he might be. Ross was a good 7 or 8 years older than the incoming freshmen in 1968 so the field is wide open as far as age is concerned.

There might be a clue for Terry in the UC Santa Cruz year book.
The Kennedy Guy that worked with Ross, looks like he had a brother??? Living with him too?

Good catch, that might make it easier to find him!
Might be easier to find Phillip. If he’s a student, might HE be in a UC SC yearbook?
Wouldn’t 3 people in that apartment be a bit crowded? Although, it would explain how they were able to afford it.

The reason we looked into the UCSC yearbooks was to find a later photo of Ross, closer to the Zodiac years.
Why look for a photo of his roommate?

If we can find Ross’s roommates we might be able to interview them to get a better handle on what became of Ross particularly if he kept in touch with the roommates. Since we are not having much luck with finding them so far, the yearbooks may offer clues like where they were from, their age or something else.
