Is anything substantively known publicly about Ross’ alibi for the CBJ murder?

Riverside PD to my knowledge has completly exonerated him..or they are so hell bent on there guy they have refused to provide any substantial facts to this case since day 1…i to would like to just conclusivly rule ross out but we need RPD to at least give us a valid reason why ross could not be the guilty party…i think the general consensus is ross was known to be out of town that day…weird stuff keeps creeping in like ALA being in riverside that day and possibly X as well..no way to ever confirm though…all i got…morf will know for sure

No, we’d all like to know more about Ross’ whereabouts on 10/30/66 and if RPD even gave him a close look.

I thought a woman he was living with alibied him, and her name does exist on this blog but she won’t talk to anyone now.

I would be curious how soon after the murder she gave the alibi. If he wasn’t a suspect for couple years, memories could blur. If it was given right away, there is more credibility to it.

She could have just been scared and lied for him if she was the alibi, but knowing he has been dead for 40 years you’d think she would have had no problem coming forward at some point. Of course that would mean she would have to admit to lying to police, but still… if she was scared of Ross killing her then that is a valid excuse for giving him a false alibi.

I’ve wondered if Ross’s alibi was that he was admitted in a mental institution. Someone in a mental institution claimed to have killed CJBaccording to the newspaper article and I thought it was odd that the paper didn’t say that person couldn’t have because they were locked up but that that person was ruled out because they were considered delusional. Ross disappeared after the murders and came back a couple weeks later – was he institutionalized inbetween? He also had bragged about escaping institutions according to Jo Ann Bailey. I could imagine the police, focused on another guy, thinking Ross had a solid alibi and missing him as a suspect.

Did the police record who worked that night? Why are there no records of Ross’s hours or paystubs from the library work he did?

No, Ross wasn’t institutionalized at this point. Was seen on the wall outside the Friday before the killing, disappeared for a couple of weeks, then reappeared.

A scratched face; a two-week disappearance. Interesting… . Hair, blood and skin found under Cheri’s nails might mean she scratched her killer’s face.

What’s your source for Ross having ‘a scratched face’?

Joe Stine had after the murder of his brother, but never heard that RS – who imo is not Z – at any time had scratches in his face.

QT: the presence of hair, skin and blood under Cheri’s fingernails implies she scratched her killer’s face which, assuming Ross was her assailant, might have explained his absence from the RCC campus.

Sullivan, when working at the library as an intern, was decked out daily in military garb-the same clothes. Upon his return, he was seen sitting on the wall wearing new clothes. This aroused the suspicion of a librarian and eventually prompted her to write a letter to police in Vallejo, I believe.

The letter mentioned him having changed his clothes (two days later?), doubt if it mentioned military garb stuff. Rather a ‘long sleeve wool flannel type shirt’.

For a read:

Some interesting part:

"The younger brother’s (of Ross) foster father was supposedly the pastor of Cheri Jo Bates’s church. Ross lived at the Y part of the time."

In "The Hunt For The Zodiac Killer" (The History Channel) RCC library employee Barbara Van Tomme (who worked at the library
since 1964) stated that Ross was frequently seen wearing an army jacket.

I believe Barbara’s said he disappeared for a few days… not weeks. He changed his appearance from military style to more common clothing to blend in after murder. All of his coworkers at the library (based on the materials I read in their collection) indicate they all thought Ross killed her.

I thought it was stated elsewhere that Ross’ alibi was Noel Jette. But according to Katz, she was with him that night:
