Wondering if any/many of you are aware of something called Creative Commons licensing.

When I was looking into the Tim Holt/Redmask comic (viewtopic.php?f=63&t=1275), I went to Comic Book Plus website ( http://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=21570 ) and noticed a reference to an interesting licensing protocol that allows people to share information online with "some rights reserved".

It is called "Creative Commons". There is a website at http://creativecommons.org that explains what it is and how to use it. I thought I would mention it because it seems to be a new thing and also it looks like it might be useful to Z-researchers in a couple of ways.

It is helpful to be aware that material that you would like to use may be available online for you to share and possibly modify and redistribute, etc. (There are different licenses, with different permissions.) An example is the comic books available for download at comicbooksplus.com: they are licensed under Creative Commons, so you are allowed to share them online, as long as you follow the terms of the particular CC license they chose.

BTW, there is even a search engine designed specifically to help you find various kinds of media content that has been licensed under Creative Commons.

Another way it may be helpful is for researchers to share information and material that they created or own, but want to ensure that the material is attributed, etc, and to control how the material may be used: for example, whether it is or is not modifiable; whether it may or mmay not be used commercially, und so weider.

Anyway, if you want to learn more about Creative Commons licensing, I suggest you visit the creativecommons.org website, or search for a quick tutorial online.

Thanks,

G
