Please forgive me if I avoid counting the actual number but the sheer excessively high number of names is too many to count up. I think just looking at this list is enough. Now Morf, that list is the lucky ones. How many do you think went through the system rite to their final destination in the chair?

99% accurate you say the system is Morf? Must be a different system to the one I know and have watched in action. The only time 99% isd able to be interjected into this issue is how certain I am that executing people with this clearly flawed model of Justice should be stopped Instantly.

Can we guarantee that we will never ever execute one innocent man?

No. Just like we can’t guarantee that a murderer will never escape and kill an innocent person.

I don’t have exact numbers, but let’s just say, the VAST MAJORITY of people in for murder, actually did it.

I don’t doubt that at all Morf. That isn’t the point though is it? It is expected to do that so should we applaud that it does what it is designed to do most of the time? It’s when it fails and innocent lives are taken it’s not rite. Surely if you Morf support the Death Penalty because you are so against the innocent women being raped and murdered by a man who simply doesn’t care for her or human life, surely you must be against the exact same taking of an innocent life when it’s behind prison walls also?

In fairness it is not my place to suggest weather the US having the death penalty is this or that. I just think that, regardless of if it’s the US, Iraq, China or any other, it’s not rite.

I suppose my view’s & opinion is formed largely on the hanging of Derek Bentley over this side of the puddle. He was under arrest and in custody of Officers on the scene when his accomplice Christopher Craig stepped out ffrom behind the wall and shot a Police Officer (Name was Miles if memory serves me) straight between the eye’s killing him instantly. Why was Derek Hung? Christopher Craig was 16, too young to be eligible to swing. Bentley, the 19 year old with a mental age of 10, was going to pay for it, someone has to for the death of a cop.

I watched Dereks sister fight for decades to clear Derek’s name, finally winning a posthumous pardon not too long back.

Posthumous pardons are great, everything can now be put rite and corrected except that it can’t.

I would be exactly the same. Except the gun bit lol.

Why is it Morf that the American culture (Male especially) feel that gun’s make a person that much more macho. I get the impression from the American’s I know that it’s a matter of the constitutional right to bare arms being so important because if you took that away, American man especially would feel like they were not quite real men anymore. I honestly do not mean this question to be intended to be taken in any way other than a genuine curiosity.

Are you fricken serious Chappie?

I can’t even comment on this. I know that’s a shocker…

Were any justice system foolproof I believe I would gladly throw the switch myself. But it ain’t. So since we cannot deliver justice correctly 100% of the time, and since it’s impossible to apologise fully to a corpse when you get it wrong, I disagree with capital punishment.

That is a fair statement, and why I said in the beginning I would pull the switch on those we do know for a fact did it. How about Polly Klaas’ killer? Talk to her Daddy.

BTK…anyone think that sick f*** deserves to walk this earth?

A personal note. My daughter, Sabrina, was murdered on 24 February 2002. She was deliberately run over–not once, but twice–in full view of numerous witnesses. My daughter is in an urn; her killer, in prison for twelve more years. I’m seventy-four years old. If I live long enough I hope, in the worst way, to greet him on his release.

That’s terrible, sorry to hear that. :( I am glad her killer is in jail.

I cannot begin to imagine how you must feel and I’m sure no matter what happened–this murderer being put to death or in prison, it does nothing for the pain you and your family have had to endure.

He should never be allowed to walk freely and live his life when your daughter was robbed of that opportunity.

I would like to hope you are there to greet him, but I also hope he rots in there and is NEVER released. And if you are no longer around..maybe others can "greet" him for you.

Well all I can say that if I was executed for a crime that I didn’t commit, I can rest easy in my coffin that at least the other 99% of people in the cemetery were at least guilty. But the fact is you cannot make mistakes EVER, 99.99% is not good enough. Lets hope this mistake never comes knocking close to home.
When the smoke starts rising off somebodies head, strapped into a chair until they are dead, Sorry just doesn’t cut it 10 years later and despite the rights of the victims, which I can fully sympathize with, this right does not extend to allowing the killing of innocents as just a necessary percentage of human error on behalf of our justice system.

I am locking this thread. It borders too closely on POLITICS & RELIGION which are off limits here.
