The Argento movies are too much for me, too much over the top, but a lot of people love Argento

Anybody remaking Halloween especially Rob Zombie, was a big mistake, why mess with perfection?

By the way, have I converted anybody into watching Black Christmas, the original not that turd of a remake?

I will check it out. The remake didn’t do it for me.

I LOVE me some Troma. I have about 25-30 of their titles (oldies.com would always have them on sale for a buck).

I agree about Halloween – I consider it to be one of the most perfect films ever made (in any genre). Just the other night I finally told my girlfriend she had to watch it!

The first few times we see Michael in the jump suit and mask (standing behind the car when Laurie is looking out of her school window, and then when he is standing in the backyard behind the clothesline) are some of my absolute favorite scenes of all time, and class examples of master filmmaking!

Black Christmas is a GREAT flick. Arguably paving the way for anything that came after it! Bob Clark was a fine director (Porky’s and A Christmas Story are two absolute favorites of mine, as well!)

Hhahaha nice!! I got some of their movies from oldies.com also. Found a few others on ebay for cheap. I used to live in the town where they filmed Blood Hook. Everyone in that town thinks they are famous because a movie was filmed there haha.

This is a good article by author Colson Whitehead on growing up in the 1970s and 80s and watching all kinds of B-movies. I could identify with a lot of what he said, like becoming the "director of programming" at home and deciding which video tapes to rent for the weekend. lol

Y’know, I actually DO love RZ’s Halloween flicks (yes, both!! ).

Rob’s vision for Halloween was a lot different than what we got, I think. He was very soured with the remake as the Weinstein’s basically ran the show and he said they were very difficult to work with. I don’t think Rob would have had so much shake-cam, etc.

Nonetheless, I love Rob’s work (White Zombie, solo career, movies, etc.. ) and these movies are no different.

I like how we get the backstory on Mike Meyers (sp?) in the first Halloween. I am a HUGE White Zombie fan, but didn’t like his solo stuff as much. I still haven’t seen Lords of Salem, but I’m not sure I want to after all the bad reviews on it.

When I was five years old, my brother and I talked our mom into going with her to see The Exorcist. Man, talk about a terrifying experience. I remember being so scared at times I had to shift my gaze to the seat in front of me! I also remember going to see Jaws in the theater, which was pretty scary. I freaked out a little when Quint destroyed the radio because I wanted him to call the Coast Guard. lol. Anyone remember Amityville 3-D? That was the first 3-D film I ever saw in a theater.

I also remember being in a hotel room in the early 1980s and our parents letting us rent Dead and Buried on pay-per-view, which had some really good effects by Stan Winston. And how about Phantasm with those orbs and the tall man? A couple months ago, I bought a used dvd of Burnt Offerings since its out of print now.

I watched "The Innocents" (based on Henry James’ "Turn Of The Screw") the other night. Very good adaptation in my opinion – even though it sort of interprets the story for you (the story itself, as written by James, can be interpreted in different ways). But, bottom line: scary as hell. I would NOT recommend watching it by your lonesome late at night if you’re even close to being skittish!

Another I watched recently is "The Orphanage" – a Spanish movie. Freaked me out plenty – and I would recommend it.

Watched "The Woman In Black" with Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame) not too long ago too – and was disappointed. This is a truly scary story (written by Susan Hill – who damn well knows how to pull certain strings), but the adaption was lacking in my opinion. There’s an earlier version (for TV, I think – possibly for the BBC) which is much better.

Dracula Untold premiers today (I think). Whether it’s any good or not remains to be seen, as with any film. As a hopeless fan of the genre I’ll watch it anyway at some point. I have however just found out something that has peaked my interest above the norm – it was filmed here in Northern Ireland. I’ve got a weird feeling I might have known that but obviously forgotten.

Anywho, here’s a piece on the BBC ‘Norn Iron’ page that informed me of this fact. Ironically because we didn’t get a premiere of our own.
