I’m creating this thread in the run up to Halloween. I know we’re all grown ups but sometimes weird stuff happens and we all like like mysteries otherwise we wouldn’t be here. So, in that respect, post you’re weird and wonderful and spooky experiences. Lets tell each other ghost stories and have some fun. I would go first but I’d rather you didn’t all need therapy lol. I’ll only tell you pg ones. :D

I don’t believe in ghosts, paranormal activities, life after death, poltergeists, etc. But I did have one weird experience that I can’t really explain.

It involved a Ouija board, an old one, made in 1967 or so. Right about the time that Parker Bros. took them over. It was the old style, where the board was
made of wood and the planchette was made of Bakelite or some sort of older plastic. My grandmother was TERRIFIED of them, and would not allow one in her
house, or even near her. She said they were the work of the devil.

She actually (almost) convinced me at the time that the Parker Bros. toy company was evil incarnate. I was an impressionable youth.

Fast forward to 1977 or so. I, and a good friend of mine from school were playing with the board. We did the usual things, tried to use it as a "medium" to talk to
dead relatives, etc. But I had an odd idea. I said "hey, what if we tape an ink pen to this thing, and see if it can work a maze!" I didn’t actually have a maze for
it to solve, so I created one. (I used to make them all the time, in school.) So we did.

We taped the pen to the planchette, taped the maze to the board, set the pen to the start of the maze, put our hands on the planchette and closed our eyes.

The damned thing started moving! It moved up, left, down, up, left, right, down, left, up down. We felt all of this without seeing. It finally stopped. When it stopped,
it had actually WORKED THE MAZE! Now, it was not perfect, it passed through some lines a bit, but it was mostly accurate. This experience still kind of freaks me out.

I guess it is the Ideomotor phenomenon. But I still can’t really explain it. Yes, this actually happened. We both had our eyes closed. I don’t believe in the paranormal.
But I don’t quite know how to explain this one.

That’s brilliant Glurk and so apt that it involved puzzles. I have a few I will tell that has reminded me of one that I’d forgotten about. This one is in a similar vein but less impressive. Creeped us out at the time.

I was in my mid teens and a few of us were hanging out at a mate’s house and we decided to try the ouija board thing. We didn’t actually have one so we cobbled something together involving a bible a key a glass and probably a crudely drawn board of some sort. The bible and the key were something to do with an old tale that said if you placed a key in the pages of revelation at the passage that referred to the Devil being chained you could summon him woooooo lol.

I don’t even remember what we did but it lasted all of about 10 mins and we decided to hell with this and threw the ‘board’ in the bin and put the bible, the key and the glass away.

(Weird I had to restart my computer, my keyboard locked up)

Anyway, a few more minutes passed and we heard something in the kitchen. At first we though it was just the kittens in their newspaper lined box. We heard it again and it didn’t sound like that, it sounded like something being moved or shuffled across the floor. Assuming it was still the kittens we decided to check. The makeshift ouija board (on A4 paper) had somehow found it’s way out of the bin and was lying on the kitchen floor. The kittens were all huddled together in one corner of their box.

We took the box and the kittens into the living room. Went back for the ‘board’ and took it to the front door to burn it. When we put the match to it the thing went up like it had been soaked in petrol and we threw it into the garden and ran back inside lol.

A few more minutes passed and the kittens got up and the hair went up on their backs and they were all hissing and growling at the wall in the living room that is shared with the kitchen on the other side. It took a moment for the penny to drop, we’d forgotten about the glass. So once again, huddled together for safety, we ventured into the kitchen. We switched on the light and the door to the cupboard where we had returned the glass to was lying wide open.

Right, again to the front door, with the glass this time. We tossed it high into the air so that it would come down on the concrete path. It did and it bounced about 3 or 4 times before coming to rest, upright, at the end of the path and not even chipped. Again, we ran back inside.

My mate’s mother returned home later that night and wanted to know why there was burnt paper in the garden and one of her glasses sitting in the middle of the path. I’m pretty sure we made something up.

In the late 70’s I was 19-20 and dating a girl 17 1/2 yr old named Angie .Just casual dating , as she knew she was going to college next year also she dated others too. We talked on the phone a lot, but getting a date was sort of hap-hazard. One sept.friday night when I called she said ..hey lets go to a haunted house tonight . I drove over to her home before dark and found out that her 15-16 year old sister and a girl freind were also going. Which was kind of a bummer until I saw them. It was a hot day and Both were wearing tight short terrycloth short shorts and tube tops and they were 5′ 95 #s and very cute , I had seen Angie’s sister before but not like this . I drove up and they got in my 70 Chevelle ,when the friend got in on the drivers side I leaned forward with the seat back to let her in ,her long silky blondish hair flowed over me ,with nice perfume and I lost my train of thought for a minute … did I mention the short shorts and tube tops and nice tans ? … ok I am getting to the haunted house part.
It was downtown in a old warehouse , as we stood in a long line to get in and checking out the other people going threw it too , I noticed some of the guys working there seemed to know and say hi to the sisters friend . Something else seemed odd to me was the group wating in line was mostly teens 13-16,17 but there were a few 40 ish men waiting to go threw and one such 35-40 yr old man had just gone threw the house and exited and then got back in line to go again and seemed to check out at the hot girls noticibly ,but then every one was .
Finnally getting in ,just Angie and I were together , snakeing through the 10-12 different dark scary rooms . these places had a steep blind slide 3 story at the end ,but the last room before was a huge 80x 150 ft ? total dark room except for the slight blacklight behind a curtain that you came threw and a red exit light that was only turned on every 3-5 minutes or so.
I was in front of Angie as we entered but soon noticed I was alone .You wonder around and have to keep you hand in front to fell where you are going ,and bumping into others there was maybe 1 guy dressed as a spooky character with a flashlight on himself from time to time ,girls lightly screaming ,screatching .
After 2 minutes of your eyes a justing to the dark you could make out figures a little I was trying to find Angie and called her name lightly when a girl grabbed me from behind and I turned and felt for her grabbed her waist feeling and softly said Angie with out a answer,I move my hands upward from the waist and felt the tube top and long silky hair and heard a soft "no" as to her being Angie
I took one hand off ,…but she didn’t and hers were moving over certain normally private areas of my person. well after a minute or so I had had enough of this . I drifted over to the exit light ,Angie had gone there from the start I said lets go she said not untill we find her sister and friend and I went looking and calling as she stayed there I saw a group of figures over in a corner and in the center was the same girl friend lets just say I understand why the tube tops and skimpy shorts
after we all exited I noticed the same older guy that had gone again was exiting ,with my high school industrial arts teacher both very sweaty.

I was 21/22 yrs old..was living in a 2 story townhouse with my mom an younger sister. Not entirely sure how it all started, but over a course of time I began to notice an hear things in my sleep that would jolt me awake. It started off small, maybe a door closing,a dresser drawer being opened or closed, occasional things misplaced or moved.I always rationalized it in my head(oh I must’ve moved that and just don’t remember,or I never really heard the door close/open I’m just hearing things)..But then things starting getting more obvious an worse.Pictures knocked off my wall, other things getting knocked over. This only happened in my bedroom an my mom was of course skeptical when I’d bring it up .Then things got even more violent,I woke up a number of nights to my bed being shook bounced completely off the floor. It came to a head one night while I was lying in my bed flat on my stomach when "something" pushed down very hard an quickly on my back,so hard it made me scream out in pain an fall off my bed to the floor. My mom came rushing into my room found me on the floor in pain.I couldnt get back up on my own,her an my sister helped me back into bed were I remained for the next 2 days while my back healed. Now,I never spoke to my friends of what I was experiencing nor even to my girlfriend at the time.So maybe a week goes by after this incident an my friend Rick comes over to pick me up an go out for the night to some party or something,he tells me we need to go pick up his girlfriend before we head out of town.So we get to her house and of course she isnt completely ready to go so she invites in to wait while she finishes getting ready. Now I had known this girl for a couple yrs now but never before had I ever meet her parents. So Im standing out on the backyard patio smoking a cigarette when the girls mom comes outside an introduces herself to me an immediately gives me a strange look over, she says "you’ve got a ghost following you"..I look at her an say "excuse me" trying not to appear completely freaked out.Shes goes on."yeah you’ve got a ghost following you I can see him"..Now im definitely freaking out an not doing a very good job of concealing it..She goes on to tell me that this ghost is angry for whatever reason and I need to get rid of it.I just kinda nod my head thinking to myself "easier said then done".She then tells me that to get rid of him I need to pray an recite " I rebuke you in the name of Jesus Christ" over an over every night till the incidents stop.Well her daughter comes outside to the patio an says she’s ready to go,i thank her mom for her advice an we all jump in the car to leave. As we are driving away I tell Ricks girlfriend what her mother had just said to me and she tells me that her mother is a Medium and I’d be wise to follow her advice.I did take her advice an after a few days of reciting those words the ghostly incidents did cease..I’ve never experienced anything ever again to that magnitude but definitely keep that phase in my mind should they ever arise again….

I didn’t think my next post would be a ghost story but here I go. . .

When I was 8ish, my father and I were returning from a camping trip late one evening, well after my bedtime which was always cool at the time. I was exhausted after several days of normal camping activities, or at least I thought so at the time, of helping my dad drill boreholes in rock, packing them with dynamite, and extending our manmade cave another few feet. I found out later that other kids did stuff like fishing and hiking whilst camping with their dads, apparently my dad saw me as a good source of labor for his gold mining hobby.

Anyway, I was pretty spent, well smoked from the campfire, and covered in quartz dust from mucking rock all weekend. When we pulled into the driveway, our trucks´ headlights lit up the front of our garage as it normally would, the second story apartment window showing a pair of lights reflecting as usual. He hit the garage door remote so we could begin the process of unpacking our smelly stuff into the garage. When my dad cut the headlights, the second story window had a figure, glowing lightly, not like brightly glowing but rather weakly. Merge, the reflection one would see of yourself during the daytime standing close to a large window, with the wispiness of smoke lite by a flashlight. The figure was decidedly male and had good detail, not Casper the ghost at all, just a normally shaped male figure, standing in the window looking down at us.

I’m not sure which of us saw it first but I screamed, not like a girl as my dad used to tell the story, but more like a lion, scarying away a pack of hyenas, a very large pack of hyenas. My dad jumped out of the truck and immediately ran toward and then under the still opening garage door, and up the stairs to the apartment. I don’t know if I was still scaring away hyenas or not, but I was following him right on his heels; no way was I staying in the truck alone. Better to face the ghost with my dad, as I’m sure he knew how to deal with this sort of problem better than I. When we got to the top of the stairs, my dad and I saw. . . only an empty apartment under renovation, just as we had left it.

My dad told me later that he was talking to a neighbor about their houses, the neighbor mentioned that the guy who had built several of the houses in the neighborhood had died while working on our garage. When I got older, I never bothered to verify the facts of that explanation, mostly because I like the memory, the truth would likely take the fun out of the whole thing.

Traveller1st: Firstly, great posts, your effort and work is really good in my opinion. I did however find an unexpected thing creepy in your post here: "box of kittens"? Made me think of the Lay’s chip commercial for some reason, "betcha can’t eat just one”

Ace: I second traveller ‘s thoughts, creepy for lots of reasons. Didn’t get the ghost or haunted out of your story, other than maybe your description of teenage girls in tubetops or your sweaty teacher and that "old guy".

Lol, yes.

When you post it back to me "a box of kittens" ha ha. I should have expanded. It was a large box with the top cut off to create a makeshift pet bed. You probably figured that though.

Good posts Kirkham and Stacey. I’ve had similar experiences of both situations. This one is kinda creepy but more if you’d been there, it’s more of a mystery.

A bunch of us one night with nothing better to do took one of our friends up on his suggestion. To jump in the car and head out to the kilns. This link explains what the ‘kilns’ are. http://lisburn.com/history/digger/Digge … -2012.html

Long since derelict they were one of many similar places the world over I’m sure where you could go for a ‘good scare’. It was probably near halloween actually. This was about 20 years ago. So we packed ourselves into Mikes little renault 5 and headed off. There were five of us IIRC.

We arrived at the kilns and the entrance was on a narrow country road and fenced off but with broken slats to gain entry. The fence was set back a little from the road, and just in front of it were 3 huge boulders to prevent/discourage parking. Yet still we parked lol.

Anywho. We exit the car and head through the gap in the fence and start to venture into the kilns. The journey in takes you along a reasonably wide earth track with very tall trees on either side. There is overgrown undergrowth as well dotted with derelict cottages/work buildings. It was a full moon so there was some light although I think we did have torches. They didn’t seem to make much difference save to see where you feet were. A suitably spooky scene.

It had rained the night before though and the track was more like a mud hurdle. Any spooky mood was dampened (excuse the pun) by the basic desire to not fall over in the mud. It became apparent that this was a crap idea and there was no point even trying to venture as far as the sunken quarry. We headed back to the car slightly crestfallen at the lack of spooky exploring.

Making our way back along the track we quickly came into view of the car and with navigating the mud and swinging flashlights it wasn’t immediately apparent to us what we were about to notice. Mike suddenly said "Shit!". Still slightly in spooky mode we expected he’d seen something weird and asked him as such. "No" he replied, "the lights are on in the car". He asks who left a door open, none of us had so now the assumption is the car has been broken into. We pick up the pace.

We arrive at the car and the door is wide open and the light on. Our friend Alison immediately dives into the back seat to check her handbag. it’s still there and thankfully nothing is missing from it. The rest of the car is dutifully checked, everyone checks they have their wallets, there’s no damage to the car. Nothing. Then we realise. Here come the mystery part.

Remember the 3 huge boulders to stop you parking? Well this was a narrow country road and we had to park at the boulders and as close to them as possible to avoid the car taking up half the road. Well the car was exactly where we parked it but several feet further into the road. We were so close to the boulders when we parked that those of us that got out of the car on the boulder side had to hold the door and edge around it to stop it hitting the boulders. Now that same door was wide open with a few inches to spare between it and the boulders. :?

It had been raining and there were no extra tracks indicating that the car had been moved. Maybe the boulders moved? IT wasn’t even a delorean, at least we know they can time travel.
