I was looking once for possible Zodiac letters in local California newspapers (SF Chronicle, Vallejo Times-Herald, etc.). The only letter that caught my eye was an angry letter from 1968 or 1969 about Governor Reagan and cuts to the part of the budget that helped the mentally ill. It was vaguely threatening (about the possibility of violence from released and unserved patients, not from the letter writer), and mentioned that the governor was too concerned about putting the cyphers in the right columns instead of caring for these folks. The letter was from a Bernice Z. Steele, which sounded to me like a possible Zodiac pen name.

A bit of research later, and I found she was a real person, a bookkeeper in some government office. I decided to investigate further, just in case a potential family member might have sent it in using her name. I found she married a Thomas Voigt in 1971! They were married in Clark County, Nevada (my real name is Clark). Middle initial Z, "cyphers," an angry letter to a newspaper, potential violence, Tom Voigt, my own name… My mind was utterly blown, and I am no longer able to distinguish legitimate leads from Zynchronicity. I can only wait for the DNA work.

It occurred to me that I had never looked up the term titwillow.

Per Wikipedia:

"The commonest call is a nasal zee, zee, zee, but the notes of the bird evidently vary considerably."

Last Sunday, my wife and I ran a marathon in West Virginia. We stayed at a hotel and ended up in room 408.

Then I noticed her bib number…

Now THAT takes the cake. Perfect timing.

…they may be dealing with one or more ersatz Zodiacs–other psychotics eager to get into the act, or perhaps even other murderers eager to lay their crimes at the real Zodiac’s doorstep. L.A. Times, 1969

I was checking it when your email arrived lol.

There’s so many things that have to line up in handwriting for it to become ‘something of interest’. That being said this is a good spot. It does contain a good few things that are visually interesting. It’s in the right style and even contains some interesting spacing habits. There are elements/habits in it that aren’t right or I don’t like might be a better way of putting it.

Noticed this poster being sold at eBay. Zodiac and cross hair and everything.

The poster was originally made in 1968 in San Francisco by Nathan Terré.
