On 12/5/73 an internationally well-known figure received a letter believed to be threatening in nature. The victim was Harland D. Sanders, the trademark for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Below you can see a copy of a note that was included in the envelope.
The words "Press", "Riverside", "L.A." and "military base" made me think about this one. Zodiac sent letters to well known public figures.
What is your thought about the handwriting? Anyone?
Is there a full size more detailed copy of this? Clearer? Any additional details? Where did you find this at? Good find!
That date reminds me of the red phantom writing, and the printed mailing address to Sanders looks familiar.
Please provide full details on the letter if you can. An FBI request for more information on the letter may be in order

Hi Morf,
I was checking letters which were threatening of nature that were posted in Zodiac’s "silent period", after his last confirmed letter and before the 1978 letter.
Somehow I stumbled on this letter. Info about it I read in this FBI report (only pictures I could find I found here):
I find it strange that a copy of the typewritten letter in the envelop is not included in the FBI report. I would be really interested to know which phrases were used in it by the unsub.
Maybe I missed it, but the only reference to Riverside I saw,was that street named Riverside. Is there a connection to the city of Riverside that I missed?
RE: FBI Threatening letters, were you looking at all kinds of threatening letters or letters having to deal with teh z case? Were you looking thru various FBI stuff on their site??

Morf, the only reference to Riverside is the street name (you aren’t missing anything ).
I used a very sophisticated tool to find out about this letter: Google!!!
Zodiac wasn’t the topic I searched for…
I Googled "threatening letter 19__" and checked the hits.
Trying a lot of years, a lot turned up but not a single letter that was sent from California.
When I used 1974 in my searchtopic several newswebsites from 2011 showed up writing about the KFC threatening letter from 1974 sent from California and that the FBI had released documents of it.
Then I checked the FBI Vault website for "Sanders" and found scans of the letter and envelop.
It was just a lucky shot…
I would like to hear the opinion of the other forum members about the handwriting on the note and envelop. Could this be Zodiac’s work or not?

Slightly like Count Marco, but really only slightly (th).
Another one…have a look at the ‘G’ in General and compare it with the ‘G’ on the envelope of the Donna Lass Christmas card.
Although there might be some similarities in it, I’d say – negative. No identical Z handwriting or any previously discussed handwriting, imo.
The only thing that made me really stop immediately was the ‘L’ which is sort of bent in the lower part. I have seen it before, however cannot remember where it had been. Couldn’t find it in any Z letters yet, Z had a normal ‘L’ or ‘I’ for the small one. Nevertheless, have seen it before..

Too much cursive, not enough printing. The envelope has that same overall feel to it, but need more samples

I can relate to differences in hand writing. Mine has changed over the years. Some letters I have written the same for a long time, while other letters have changed, some more than once. Sometimes, I see a way someone writes a certain letter, and I copy it because I like how it looks. I rarely ever write in cursive, but when I do, I don’t write the entire thing (whatever I am writing) in cursive. I will try to dig up some of my writings from High School to show examples of how my writing has changed in the last 20 years.
Personally, I think this is Zodiac. Maybe "the General" was one of his personalities, which had it’s own style of writing.
A few minutes ago on a toilet not very far, far away….
I think ‘The General’, was meant as a slap in the face to Sanders, who was called, ‘The colonel’
