I made my first Latte.

I bought an old Woolworths Evolution 15 bar coffee maker off ebay last year and decided to quit ignoring it this morning and have a go at using it. It came with a Krups grinder and I have bought coffee beans but I wimped out a bit and just went with pre-ground for this first attempt.

I did have to check out some you tube videos on technique but it worked and it tasted nice. Really quite nice actually. Heck of a lot more to it than you’d imagine from tamping to using the right amount of milk and get it to the right temp then tapping out the bubbles to get the consistency, purging the steam pipe etc etc. It wasn’t a work of Barista art but it was a good as anything I’ve paid for around here, if not better.

Can’t wait to see what I can manage with grinding my own beans and a little/lot of practice.

Just had to share that mostly out of relief and surprise. Noisy ole thing and I’m sure to some of you it’s nothing new but it made my morning.

Being in the Bay Area I was aware of Graysmiths Book Signing.
I would like to meet or talk to Grsysmith one day. I have a couple Vallejo questions for him since I was a Vallejo Girl.
It would be interesting to sit back & see just who comes to his signings. Sometimes they draw old timers out if the wood work.

Actually went to 2 of LL’s Book Signings. One was totally large at the Elks Lodge in Vallejo. <- Lets just say I meant some very interesting people there! And the other one was at a Book Store a very good turn out and same thing, some interesting, some normal & some strange people come out of the wood work.

Well I guess you can say that this old timer came out of the woodwork LOL ! I went with Ricardo to the book signing ,Zamantha was invited, but she had something else to do that day, or there would have been two of us old timers there . It was a great day, Robert was pleased to meet us, I am pretty sure that everyone there bought the book "Black Fire". He spoke eloquently about what was in the book, about Ton Sawyer and Mark Twain. All of the drawings in the book were done by him in pen- ink which is not easy to do. (The book is only $29.00.) I like what I have read so far, it is a fascinating book. He introduced me to his ex wife, who is a very nice petite attractive woman. He told her that I was in his Zodiac Unmasked book and that I was a very important part of the Zodiac case, which I was surprised to hear ! We talked about how Paul Avery would send everything I sent to him to Robert and how he was the only one from the SF Chronicle who went up to Sacrament to visit Paul. I told him that I would like to talk more with him and would like to take him to lunch one day and he kindly excepted. This book should be a best seller , it s a true story that did take place in S.F. in the 1800’s.

We walked through the museum looking at all of the old equipment that was used back in the 1800’s and saw one of the old fire trucks that was used to help put out the 1906 fire ! The wheels were made of steel , it had a lot of pressure gages that could cause it to blow up if not watched closely ! If there wasn’t enough steam to go up the steep S.F. hills they would have to push it. It is a wonderful place to check out, I wish I knew about it when my children were younger.
After leaving the museum we walked to the Lucky Penny restaurant for a bite to eat, a place where Robt Graysmith went with David Toschi many times for lunch.

I forgot to mention that there is a picture of the group of people that attended the book signing that day . I am told it is on You Tube, we are in the front row.

Ah, it’s Sandy & Ricardo front row & Graysmith! Very cool! Also nice that you were able to meet his ex wife, whom he was married to in the Z days. Cute picture!
