Hello,I saw the Zodiac movie directed by Fincher a few months ago and became fascinated with this case. I am new as a poster on this forum, but I have lurked for a while. I recently read two books, one called "sighting the Zodiac" by Breeson and "the myth of the Zodiac"by Horan. The Breeson book emphasizes that the Zodiac must have been a hunter,in a STEM professional field(likely an engineer),and in the military. He tends to eliminate most of the top suspects brought up on this site, and seems to implicate Don Chaney(sic?) as a suspect. The Horan book goes as far to say that the crimes were likely NOT committed by the same person (with the possible exception of Lake Herman rd and Blue Rock Springs, which he feels were both drug related murders committed by a Hell’s Angels associate who went by the moniker of Big Red). He said that the Zodiac letters were likely generated by someone in the newspapers, the police department and perhaps later on by Robert Smith(aka Graysmith) himself.
I am curious about peoples thoughts on these two books.

I enjoy the website and thank you for letting me participate.

I can’t comment on Breeson, but Horan’s been around for years and his theories keep changing. In fact, I’ve never heard of that book, he had another one called "The Great Zodiac Hoax" that doesn’t appear to be available anymore. His old theory was that Hal Snook wrote a bunch of bogus letters and there was no actual Zodiac. He doesn’t have any insider info, he’s just a theorist who self-publishes books.

The "Big Red" stuff has some basis in fact: there was supposedly some in-jail confession about LHR that implicated David Wally Ott, and a couple of the cops (Terry Cunningham and Ed Rust) don’t think Zodiac did it. Is Horan still pushing Dennis Land for LB and the "Keith Power took the piece of Stine’s shirt" angle? Generally, his attempts to explain away Zodiac come across as much more farfetched than, you know, there being an actual Zodiac.

Yes Coffee Time,he is pushing those same theories although he also implies that Graysmith wrote some of the later letters. I believe there was a Zodiac, however I think the LB attack was a copycat.

What a publicity hound!

Very few aspects of his theory had any credibility or potential yet he managed to parlay that into a personal vendetta against Tom and or all of us.

There’s a couple things I liked about his “history “with respect to the reporter.

The rest of his garbage ,in my humble opinion, is bullshit.
