I have neither time nor money to spend on this case. And I’m not at all certain that the former and the latter are not the same.

I believe this but I have a horrible feeling that the chances are he died an old man and any evidence or clues he may have left are either still sitting in a box in an attic somewhere or (more likely) they were cleared out with the rest of the rubbish that usually happens when an old relative dies.
