Found a video of the Exorcist Premeire that includes a fair amount of footage from North Point Theater in San Francisco mixed in with footage of a few other openings. Zodiac said he saw the Exorcist and I’ve read that North Point was apparently the only theater showing it in San Francisco. Couldn’t find mine but maybe your suspect is in the crowd?
There’s one guy at 0:39 to the left – near the "not for broadcast" text – who could fit the description.

If Zodiac could watch the "saterical comidy" Exorcist without flinching, then no wonder he could escape the Paul Stine murder scene and even confront the police without being detected. Speaking of movies, it’s a cold-blooded psychopathy that reminds me of Hannibal Lecter.
