If you believe that police sources are necessarily better or more unimpeachable than anyone else, remember that Steve Baldino once looked into a camera and swore that he had listened to a tape of Z’s voice the day after he made the phone call after BRS. He said that he did not know what had happened to that tape but that, "I did, in fact, hear it." I and others did a lot of research about ten years ago on that and I do not believe a tape ever existed.

BBM: Do you mean statements made by police or sources in the hands of police submitted by non-police personnel?
Could you tell us (me?) more about why you believe Baldino lied (if that’s what you are saying).
TIA
When in doubt, don’t.
This tape??
I think Geraldo makes people want to bs. Pretty sure Baldino admitted it was a bogus comment.

Now that’s funny!

Sorry…I know someone will give me a hard time for making that, but I couldn’t resist. (love those websites!)
Tahoe…
Thought it was great Tahoe….
Blimmin’ great. We need a whole shelf full. "ALA confession", "Perez – conversations with her father"…..etc. etc.
Poor Baldino. Saw his claim to fame Shot down in flames by Nancy Slover who stated in such a wonderful, no-nonsense kind of way that
"Officer Baldino should know better than to claim there was a recording made of Zodiac’s voice when he called and spoke with me. He knows very well that in 1969 we didn’t have the ability to record incoming calls."
I admire and applaud Nancy for being so bold and dismissive of such a claim because as she points out, he knew fully well that no such tape had ever existed.
"So it’s sorta social. Demented and sad, but social, right?" Judd Nelson.
That’s interesting that no way to record calls was available there in 1969. Even where I live answering machines were in use back then. Just one touch of a button would do it.
When in doubt, don’t.
If we had his voice on tape along with his composite and Handwriting, would he still avoid being recognised? Surely not. I mean the fact nobody recognised his writing and wanted composite sketch is very unusual but if his voice was also put along with that? Can’t see him not having someone who would hear a recording and think "That is my sisters son’s friend" for example.

What you said is a good possibility if the areas Zodiac frequented were small towns where everyone knew everyone else but if he was military or in San Francisco, I’m not sure he would be recognized. Bryan Hartnell did state that he thought the voice sounded familiar but he couldn’t quite place where or why (my paraphrasing).
When in doubt, don’t.
Looks like I sent the thread careening semi-off topic but the bottom line is that you don’t have to believe what a police officer says anymore than anyone else. There are some bad apples in that bunch, too. Let this nice gentleman put his proof on the table like everyone else.

Agreed.
I would think that law enforcement would have made an announcement if The Z. had been discovered and case solved.
