It is obvious that Zodiac had changed his MO like he said he would do later. Shooting couples in blitz attacks probably became boring for him, after a few of those, he wanted to up the game and do something that has never been done before by any serial killer.

Could be, I do think he wanted to make a statement with Berryessa. But we know police had started stationing officers disguised as lovers parked in isolated places at night. If Zodiac had some way of knowing that, or just figured police would do that knowing how their tactics work, that might have made him decide to change his MO and attack during the day.

My theory is LB was an escalation and attention grab. The lover’s lane murders weren’t getting him the attention he wanted, so he stepped it up.

The costume was to disguise himself from witnesses. He estimated there would be little chance of going unseen from the parking lot to crime scene and back. It was also a hedge against an ID from a living victim. After leaving a living victim in the Ferrin attack, he engaged in patter with the victims and disguised himself in case one lived.

The writing on the door served to tie him to the crime. He wanted everyone to know he did this and he wasn’t just stalking lover’s lanes at night.

How do you know police were disguised as lovers to try and catch Zodiac? I offered myself as a decoy and was told that it would cost too much money and that they didn’t have the manpower to that. Plus they had no way of knowing when he would strike again. Did you read that in some Zodiac book? I would like to know if that actually took place for sure?

That was done in Pittsburg Ca during the 1990’s, to try and catch a serial killer who claimed to be Zodiac!

I was a decoy with Buzz Gordon in Vallejo , we tried our best to catch Zodiac. Without telling the police what we were doing. That was not the smartest thing to do!

additional extended fabric bib, marked with the zodiac symbol to bolster the persona he wanted
to project as a powerfull, uncatchable multiple murderer. Another point not mentioned – if planning
to repeatedly stab one or several people to death, you are going to get blood splashed on you – the
hood and bib allowed the protection and a quick takeoff (and if need be, disposal) to prevent blood
soaking the normal upper clothing worn underneath.

I don’t know for certain. It was mentioned in some news articles I think, might just be rumor though, can’t remember where I saw it.

I saw that costume with in hours of the stabbing. The hood was made from a "paper sack" and painted flat black to match the cotton bib. The bib was a yard and a half long by 36 inches wide, the logo was in the center of the bib. There were some spots on it that I thought were spots of mud , now I know it had to be blood! There was not a lot of blood on it. Their clothes must have prevented a lot of spatter? I lived in Napa at that time, my story about finding the costume is on this site under "Sandy’s POI". There were pictures, but photobucket pulled them. If you want to see what the costume looked like, I made a copy and it’s on YouTube under " Enhanced voice of man who claims to be Zodiac". Some duffus thought the voice in the video says he is the Zodiac. ( No he did not) This is a voice recording of a man who stalks me who claims to be Zodiac. I got away from this same man in Vallejo in 1968, he has stalked me on and off for many yrs. On that recording he tells me " I like your voice baby , bye bye to you too". Then he breaths real heavy and when I pick up the phone, he hangs up. He is a coward for sure!

Possibly. Blood splatters also come from blood adhering to the metal blade
and being flung off, particularly if the blade were being moved energetically,

Yes exactly, they were tiny spots like cast off from the knife! The only spot that had some sort of reddish color to it ,was the one spot that landed on the white logo. That spot was on Zodiac’s left side of the logo and was less than half the size of a dime. When I saw that spot I thought who ever wore that costume must of had been eating a hotdog or hamburger, because it was sort of the color of catsup and mustard mixed. The paper hood had a odd smell to it, whatever he used to make it black had a smell like shoe polish or rancid ink? It was very warm that day, the windows were down in my car when the costume was planted there, along with several other items. I rolled the windows up, because I had my baby boy with me and didn’t want the wind to cause him to get an earache. That was when I could smell the hood, I threw that part in the garbage as soon as I got home! If only I can find another Napa Det. to take me seriously , I have blood evidence from that crime scene,to prove I am telling the truth! I believe that the wrist watch that was left with the costume, was Cecelia’s! A tiny Catholic bible was also put there that day, that I now believe belonged to Cheri Jo Bates. She was the only Catholic victim who was a possible Zodiac victim. Cecelia’s DNA should still be on that Timex watch. I wrote to Riverside and let them know that I have the tiny bible, they never replied. Perhaps her brother Michael would recognize it? Riverside PD still have their blinders on for their B.B suspect!

It is not ( And Now you have ) I have always said he put sevearl other things in my car that day, I have listed them many times! I do still have the wrist watch, Bible and dictionary with what looks like blood on it. three earrings that were at the bottom of the ammo can that was put in my car with the costume.Some things are in the evidence room at SFPD. The hood that everyone believes was the costume, I call the hood what it was and that is the part that covered his head. The bib I did have saved in a box of material that I thought was stolen or lost? Then I got a call about a year or so ago, from my ex who said he found some of my belongings in his mother’s attic after she passed away. He was moving her things out of the house that was being sold. He let me know that he found a few of my boxes of material! I knew I had saved the bib because I was going to sew something out of it, not knowing what it actually was! He was supposed to call me before he loaded my boxes onto his truck. He moved them to his new home instead and they got mixed with all of the other boxes. He has all of the boxes stacked on top of eachother and hasn’t gone through them as far as I know? He had a heart attack a few months back and I have not pushed him to find my boxes. Before his heart attack, I offered to help him go through the boxes, he told me no that he would do it! He has not phoned me for several months now, his wife may have told him she didn’t approve of us being so friendly? I have let LE know that I have these things to be tested, but no reply. There was one Det in Napa, Banducci was his name, he told me to hang onto what I have so he could get the FBI to test my things in their lab. He has retired like most have who knew the case. He did tell me that of all the people he has talked to, I am the only one with real case evidence.

Cragle, I wish I knew how to post images, almost everything is posted at Tom’s site under "The Sandy Betts Story", I can try to copy and paste? If not,Zamantha might still have pictures of everything? She is the one who put all of that on this site under Sandy’s POI thread. Photobucket removed it. I may be seeing her Sept 6th and give her copies to post again , if she doesn’t have them at her home?

The size of it is about one and a half inches tall by one inch wide and a quarter inch thick, very old. The page that usually has the name of the owner on it , was torn off before he put it in my car. I can not think of anyone else that could belong to?

I forgot to mention thrown on top of the costume, was a plastic name tag with the name Daniel Perez. He could be another victim? I searched for one in the California Death list and found one with that name in his early 20’s.I have haven’t checked to see if I can find out how he died? There had to be a reason for that name tag to be with all of the other items? Everything that he "planted" in my car had to have some sort of connection to a crime he commited and to him being Zodiac.
