I apologize if this has been shared before, but did a search and could not find it.

Has anyone seen this Letter to the Editor published in the St. Helena Star on May 12, 1955?

I found the subject matter and location interesting, as well as the presumed pseudonym Friar Puck. (There’s also another Letter to the Editor by Friar Puck in April, 1955).

It’s my first time seeing it. I’m not sure if it’s been shared before this, but I happened upon it after doing some searches for Mikado. The Mikado, and the part about the billiards, seemed really important to Zodiac. And we know he loved contacting newspapers. And the tone. And the location. It made me wonder if he could have been the writer.Maybe not. But I’m going to do a little more digging.

I’m not sure I saw it. I found this in the St. Helena Star newspaper archives from 1955. I guess there is no way if ever finding out who really sent it. I’m going to dig through that paper a little more and see if I find anything interesting.

I know there was others in the past made as jokes. If this is real it’s a great find and yes please keep digging.

There is no way that those could have been jokes like mocking the Zodiac, when there was no Zodiac until 14 yrs later.

He would have been pretty young in 1955, but sounds very much like him to me. This would mean he was in northern Ca sooner than we thought? I looked to see if my RH suspect was in St Helena in 1955, I did find a J.S. Hernandez at RD 1 Box St Helena in 1956. And a Robt. Hernandez the same yr as a Tech at the Napa St Hospital , living in Napa at that time. There was also a Robt. who was the production manager at the Vallejo Times Newspaper who also lived in Napa.

Thank you Essa Berry for sharing those articles! We may never know if that was from thee Zodiac or not, but it’s worth looking and checking just the same.

You’re welcome, Sandy! I was pretty excited to find them, and do wonder if they were from an early Zodiac or not. If so, that’s another link to Napa area, and maybe another link to mental health? He seemed to have an attitude about the term "mentally retarded child."

If real then in my opinion they are from Zodiac but just surprised other posters on here are not excited about them. These would put Zodiac at the age described at PH and not a younger Zodiac at the times of the murders.

I have always believed that the Dunbar call was the real Zodiac and not Eric Weil! ( Their voices are totally different.) I have heard that voice in person and in calls that I have received over the years. So I really don’t give a damn what others in LE believe about those calls! They have been wrong about many things concerning this case. That mental hospital was a block from my home in Napa. There was a nurse there with the last name of Betts, perhaps if Z was a a patient there and didn’t like that nurse, he may have felt I was related to her and started to stalk me because of her? Or he knew that I was dating Buzz Gordon and that Darlene has as well and he didn’t like him?

The man I saw I thought looked about 30 yrs old in 1968, but a clue to his age was given to me by him, telling me he was in his 40’s in 1969 which would make him about 26 in 1955. Hard to know for sure about anything.

Stitch, It doesn’t surprise me that many are not excited about this new find. Most have preconceived ideas about the Zodiac, that probably doesn’t fit with someone writing form St Helena in 1955. I like to look at everything and check it out, but that is just who I am.

Sandy 26 sounds about right if this is Zodiac from 1955 which I believe it is and his style. Also get why people are not excited and that makes sense as well!

IF these 1955 letters were by Zodiac, the next question would be why did he choose to sign off with the name Friar Puck? Associated with Catholicism? Into art? College studies?
