I just sent an email to the editor. Let’s see if they have any way to help.

Thank you! Excellent idea!

Running "Friar Puck" through the newspaper archives. Getting some interesting results.

This is some kind of sports letter to the editor

https://www.newspapers.com/clip/47172612/

If someone could tell me how to make the image appear that would be greatly appreciated.

The text is:
When was the last times the Amerks had a winning record. I kept reading about anticipated major player changes this summer, but hardly anything good happened. This team doesn’t appear to be any better than last year’s team. – Friar Puck

A local junior hockey tournament has a mascot named Friar Puck. Interesting due to the location.

This 1931 book, 1066 and All That by W. C. Sellar (1898–1951) and R. J. Yeatman (1897–1968), has a character named Friar Puck. It is a comedic faux history of England.

Those who wonder about Z’s possible Anglophilia will find this of interest, I assume.

It does seem to be a bit of a joke that goes around among hockey fans.

More Anglophilia. Apparently there is an 18th Century British artist named Henry Fuseli, who has a macabre piece of art work called Friar Puck. Disturbing.

Great finds!
If you do a Google search, Friar Puck in quotes doesn’t really appear a lot online, which I consider a good thing.

This is the one I keep going to because of the demonic appearance and nature and referred to as wearing dark cloak. I could see Zodiac being into it. I do wonder if Zodiac was catholic.

I agree that Zodiac would have liked the artist and the Oil painting of Friar Puck. Being Zodiac was into the arts , the old masters were the best if the best artists I believe.

I am an artist and appreciate fine art work, not into abstract at all !

Finding someone in NY using the name Friar Puck in a newspaper column, fits with a female victim who left Calif. in the 1990’s because she was so afraid the man who tried to kill her in Pittsburg Ca.would come after her again, so she moved to New York. Perhaps he found out she moved there and went to find her, because she was a living witness?

In 1998 I received a phone call from whom I believe was my stalker , he didn’t say anything he played the Aria "Ave Maria". He also phoned Ed Neil and played it for him as well on the same day. Those calls came from Chicago, Ed and I worked together on investigating the Z crimes at that time. Perhaps he thought we were boyfriend and girlfriend?

Not sure if The Exorcist letter was authentic, and not sure if the Friar Puck letters belong to Zodiac, but if both are Zodiac, that’s sorta two connections to Catholicism. It may be a loose connection but it’s one I plan to look into a little further.

Also, that find in the NY paper!!

Some of the investigators believed that Zodiac was Catholic and felt the need to confess. There is a good possibility he went to the same church that Cheri Jo Bates went to. He seemed to know the address of that church and found the same numbered address near the RCC campus to kill her. Or was that just a coincidence?

I do believe that Zodiac wrote the Exorcist letter and could possibly be the person who wrote as Friar Puck. I can’t imagine Zodiac not going to see that movie! I saw it a few times and liked it very much, I am also Catholic. It was based on a true story of a 12 yr old boy.

Even though being Catholic and being curious about the occult, Ouija boards, spirit world etc. That didn’t keep me from looking into all of it. It was what many were doing in the 1960’s. Darlene was into it as well and had a black cloak that was found in her closet after she was murdered. Her sister believed that Jim Phillips introduced Darlene to the occult and took her to Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan. Perhaps that was where they met Zodiac?

It would be very interesting if someone asked a oija board a few questions such as who was the Zodiac? Or they could go through the list of all those named asking it if that person was the Zodiac? Was there more than one? It just might result in some answers finally!

Good insight about the need to confess. I can see that with the letters. Love these brainstorming sessions of asking questions. I think it’s really important to ask why someone would use the name Friar Puck. That could possibly say a lot.
I just tried uploading a pic for others to see of Fuseli’s Friar Puck, but the file was too large. I’ll do it later if someone doesn’t beat me to it.

It’s a play on Robin Hood’s Friar Tuck.

Yep been saying that and the show came out in 55 around the same time the letters to the editor. The writer probably was a fan of the show.
