I doubt he was related to the furniture Guys. By the way, I found this 1966 Santa Barbara listing, but I doubt it’s ‘our’ Arthur Allen. This Guy’s occupation was laborer

I suppose we could obtain an actual 1969 Fresno directory and see if there were any people named ETHAN ALLEN in it. If so,I guess it would be less ominous. This may be a coincidence, but although the last name ALLEN is common, the first name ETHAN, is not as common. Add in the Blue Meanies reference and the fact that ALA’s Dad was named Ethan, this gets interesting for sure. The issue for me, is that ALA has been ruled out 6 ways from Sunday. Prints don’t match,DNA doesn’t match, none of his weapons matched, and also ruled out via writing which,I always thought was somewhat similar to Zodiac.
Graysmith tried to connect ALA and Fred Manalli, and Manalli is one of my favorite Suspects, so this peeks my interest for sure. I really think that Graysmith had more info on Manalli, or had some reason to suspect him, afterall, he brings him up from out of the blue in connection to ALA, but I would need to see some proof that they knew each other.
Back to the letter to the editor here, the writer mailed it to that paper, and stated that he lived in Fresno, maybe because he thought it had a better chance of getting printed as opposed to a letter from an out of towner? Perhaps, we could look in Bay area papers around the same time, and see if the Chron,Vallejo Times Herald, etc, got a similar letter.

I wonder if Manallis dad and Ethan Allen were friends and Arthur and Fred knew eachother that way.

Ummm…yeah….so how are they related? I am in a bit of shock myself….that is crazy.
His father.
Ethan Allen was an army guy (well, military, not sure which branch) – officer of some kind, I think. He died not long after Allen became a suspect in the Z case, if memory serves.
EDIT Died in 1971.
So….does this make ALA more connected or has there been something that has definitely ruled him out as a suspect? If this is some big find, does it change anything as to the reasons WHY he has been discounted, or does it make him that much more appealing because at the time he could not be placed in the area and this was a documented newspaper that happened to be his father around the time Z killed? I am sorry, but I have not read all the docs on here….what is the significance of that particular address? And, yes, I am fully aware, that is probably an idiot question.
Is it just because ALA lived there or was there some other connection?
You mean the Fresno St address? Well, the significance is simply that it’s fairly close to both BRS and LHR. But we already knew that Allen lived there – so there’s nothing new in that regard.
As for the underlined part – it depends on whether this particular "Ethan Allen" is in fact ALA’s father. If he’s just some guy from Fresno, then he’s…just some guy from Fresno. If he’s ALA’s father, though, it is at the very least noteworthy. ALA’s father was by all accounts a pretty conservative guy – and the content of the letter definitely jibes with that.

Seems Ethan Allen of Fresno really liked to write the editor. Fresno Bee Dec.19, 1969

Doesn’t seem likely that this guy was ALA’s father.
He comments on local politics and whatnot, seemingly doing so as a local man, i.e. someone who actually lived in Fresno.
Anyway, if there are any letters from the guy post 1971, the matter is definitely settled – as ALA’s father died in that year (as mentioned above).
Guy writes frequently to the editor, uses the phrase "blue meanies" and calls himself Ethan Allen (same as ALA’s father). It’s zynchronicity – and a good one at that – but probably nothing more.
