I like this one from 1968.

IMHO, that’s a big part of why he wrote. I see plenty of evidence in the letters to indicate that Z may have had a touch of reactive-attachment disorder.

Very true, and one wonders if he wrote on those random times when he was either angry or lonely or both. As he said, "so lonely I could do my thing!!!". Well, writing was his thing, too. So he kills when he gets angry enough about his loneliness, like he he killed Jensen and Faraday on the last weekend before Christmas, and Ferrin on July 4th. A very lonely man. No family, no friends, no wife, no kids. After a while, the attention he received from the newspapers, and the editors of such, became the only people who would listen to him, making them his surrogate family and friends.

He could have written a lot more, in fact, and one wonders if wrote in large part as a form of therapy, a way to vent and feel kinship with other people on some level.

Pretty sad. I might feel sorry for him a bit if not for the five dead people and the two brutally wounded two.

That’s a good one. The writer even uses "Uv" in place of "of" in the spelled out STUPID acronym…..interesting.

Putting on some 1969 letters to editor of the VTH, will try to get them on tonight. I found one really interesting one, that if it was mailed in a couple months earlier, could have been making reference to Darlene Ferrin. Really creepy, and the name Jim Jones made me think of the cult leader, but I do not know if his name was popular in 1969

I hope out of all these letters to the editors, somebody makes reference to the Z crimes, or to the murders, or Gilbert & Sullivan, Exorcist, etc, anything that may be a clue

Quite.

I’m trying to read through these — it seems very likely that these letters represent the conversation of the time, better than we are able to imagine it now. If Z was local, and I think he was, this is the wider community around him. There has to be a clue, some crossover of references to help point us in the right direction. Just a lot to go through!
