Is there any relation to this area with the Z case? There was a apartment building operating there called The Zodiac from prior to the killings until after them. It was called "The Zodiac" up until about 1972, which is the last time I can find it referenced as such in a paper for advertising. I think it’s about an hour from Riverside. The unit was apparently completed in 1961. Here is the clipping from the completion:

Lots of things are named "Zodiac". A watch, a boat, an astrology symbol. Comic book villains. Wasn’t there a car named Zodiac?

For all we know, it was the killer’s last name. Or related to his occupation. Or a word he preferred thanks to OCD or Aspergers. Or something he chose from the dictionary at random.

No one knows, and a billion ergs of speculation move us no closer to our target of naming the fiend.

My 2 best guesses on the name was that somebody stole it from the Zodiac watch company since the symbol & name both match what Z used, or they stole it from Zode at Pacific HS since he used to go around saying "this is the Zodiac speaking" years before Z used that phrase

There is more than one way to lose your life to a killer

Well that’s interesting but…the zodiac is/has an actual symbol:

I don’t see how anyone could steal the symbol when it’s pretty much in the public fore and has been for…centuries at least.

An interesting note, as shown on this page: cross-hairs do not extend outside the circle, but surveying symbols do.

I would think The Zodiac would know the difference if he were as into guns as he implied.

I still maintain that The Zodiac was into surveying somehow, based on a confluence of symbology, radians, road grading (as depicted in his bus bomb letter) and his mention of fuel oil, which is or was used in land construction projects, such as the large quarry in Vallejo. The Zodiac also seemed to have an irritation for school buses. Perhaps they often interfered with his occupation.

I am gonna ride my bike out there, I know where this is. Its probably just a few miles from my place. I’ll see what is there, just for chits and giggles.

As promised, me and my bike took a sweaty ride to this address today.
Unfortunately there was NO writing, name etc on the building, and how charming to discover that its just like my neighborhood, a little bit down-at-the-heels. Frankly I didn’t even know Pasadena had anything like what may be called "a bad neighborhood" but it isn’t BAD, necessarily, just run-down.

But yeah, nothing there, except an ordinary apartment building. Normal LA stucco.

No real beefy, non-blubbery, bespectacled, elderly guys with crew cuts and electric gun sights loping around?

Thanks for the effort, though, MM.
