The idea that genealogists have put Zodiac DNA on the shelf to get around to it later while going through all these other crimes is just incomprehensible and I certainly don’t buy that familial DNA systems are only recently up to the ask. This guy would have been identified long before EARONS. So I really doubt databases are the problem. It’s really a matter of putting genealogist bums on seats and processing power. Partial sample sounds a way more plausible if they had anything in the past. No comment about modern finds.

It depends on the family. If Zodiac were an only child with very few cousins, it could be very hard to locate a match. If he were a child of first generation immigrants, maybe there isn’t much in the way of family here in the United States. There are many, many variables.

Yes there are but I think quality of DNA is really more responsible these days for not locating someone than familial DNA analysis. EARONS was very quick because a relative was already in a database but even if the relative was not there it really is just a matter of putting money and experts in genealogy to do some custom work in addition to whatever the public sector offers and then some route detective work to sort through the results. I certainly wouldn’t undermine the complexities as you pointed out I just doubt the Zodiac is somehow also so lucky as to also be completely off the genetic grid by way of genetic distancing. Maybe he is, but I tend to think poor quality samples has a better explanation for nothing happening there.

Ive also often wondered whats under CJB fingernails. Was she buried or cremated? What condition his her body in, and could preserved DNA be on her somewhere.

Exhumed and cremated in the 1980s.
