I remember a posting Morf made about matching prints at different crimes scenes of Zodiac, and the investigator’s reply was something along the lines of not wanting to comment. I don’t recall the details, but I definitely could not get a straight answer. He either didn’t know, or couldn’t/wouldn’t say

The prints have to be of sufficient detail and clarity for comparison. I read that the SFPD prints from the Stine cab were too blurry for comparison. At best, you might get a few points to match but never an 8 or 10 point match. As for the letters, you can never know that a print on the letters was actually from Z. For all me know, he stole paper from work and any fingerprints were from the guy who placed the paper in a cabinet.
