Hello. :D

In my research on the ciphers and letters of the infamous Zodiac I noticed something interesting.

At the end of the letter (see image), sent on November 8, 1969, together with the 340 CIPHER, the months of the crimes committed by the Zodiac appear in an abridged way (with the exception of July).

Normal

DESJULYAUGSEPTOCT

mirror

TCOTPESGUAYLUJSED

I noticed that the length of the letters of these "words" is 17, which is the length of the lines of both Z408 (already Decrypted) and Z340 (not yet deciphered) and parsimoniously in the line above Z32 (not yet deciphered)

As this letter was sent along with the cipher 340 (which is suggestive), I thought this might be a key to 340 (Vigenere who knows?!)

Sharing.

Interesting observation. Thanks!

You’re welcome, Mr. Doranchak. :)

Don’t know if this means anything but figured you might be interested. Here’s another strange observation about the letter.

After messing around with the letter and thinking that the card could be an allusion to Morse code, something strange popped out.

If you treat the T or H as a "dash"
and I N G as "dots"

you get:
…….

which oddly ends with "See 7"

The number "7" conveniently being located to the lower right of "Thing" which following this pattern –… translates to "7"

I will research about it, thanks for the post :)

By the way, it is interesting the mistake of changing the letter (c) of December, by the letter S (DES)
here are some more possibilities of ordination of the month

Some proposals for "keys"
In the case I have worked "vigenere" as some paths, both in the 340, when in other models of the cipher I mounted.
in this case two keys of 34 letters

correct and mirror

DESJULYAUGSEPTOCT
TCOTPESGUAYLUJSED

mirror and correct

TCOTPESGUAYLUJSED
DESJULYAUGSEPTOCT

in this case I imagined the inversion of the original key in each line.
Or in other models of the cipher I search, in each column.
sharing

Hi :)
As I noted in another topic I have published here,
when we eliminate the alpha-symbolic symbols of the first line (9 in all)
HERVPILTG, there remains a cipher with 54 symbols, such as cipher 408, and a total of 289 in length that can be divided into 17×17, 17 lines, 17 columns.
I found this interesting, since, in addition to the number of symbols for "building" the cipher drops to a number already known (54), again the number 17, this time in a harmonious way, reappears.
I share one of the models I’ve been working on

Hello. :)
I share this observation, with anagrams of the sequence of months "Des July Aug Oct".
I also have restrictions on anagrams for the enormity of possible ways.
But I can not help but check some anagrams that can be a key.

DESJULYAUGSEPTOCT
A Code Getups Justly" – anagram

Hello :D
Nothing relevant, I just noticed that the crossed circle, classic mark of the zodiac, is over the months I quoted in the topic and below the cipher 340.Maybe a hint that the cipher starts from the bottom up

Another significant thing is the fact that Zodiac in this letter choose to spell the december abbreviation as "Des" instead of the english/US version "Dec"

And thinking of the possible norwegian connection to Zodiac, it is of interest that December in norwegian is spelled Desember with an "s" instead of a "c".

Hi, english is not my first language so please bear with me :)

I did not know that . Sounds very interesting to me :!: :!: :!: :)

Then, continuing my observations.
1-I have noticed that the letters E and T of DES and SEPT coincide, in position, with the alphabetic symbols E and T of the first line of CIPHER 340.
2- That the month, (which as far as we know, AUGUST, there was no crime committed by the zodiac that is known to all )written by Zodiaco abbreviated, AUG, exactly corresponds to the 3 central columns of the CIPHER.

Hello, :)
In my research, I realized that, by working the year 1969, the year of the month’s sequencing of the letter,
19 and 69 can be written, nineteen and sixty-nine, which together, nineteen sixty-nine is 17 in length
NINETEENSIXTYNINE
I did some tests, Vigenere, on the AZDK, as an example.
I made some "keys"
Just sharing. ;)

Hey Marclean,

Do the following to test a vigenère keyword of your choice on the 340 with AZdecrypt:

Make a text file with notepad that contains the keyword(s) in uppercase letters where each line is a new key without additional spaces.

NINETEENSIXTYNINE
THISISANOTHERKEY
ANDANOTHERKEY

Then go to options and click solvers or solver options. Change (General) Iterations to 1,000,000 and (General) Restarts to 10. Or maybe a bit more for both if you really want to be sure. Then put the 340 cipher in the input window and select the "substitution + vigenère wordlist" solver. Click on solve and the program will ask for a file. Locate the text file with the keyword(s) you made earlier and the program will do the rest.

Wow, it worked !! (I did not find the z340 cipher solution of course, lol), but the interactions run smoothly.
I put these "keys" and started the solver.

DESJULYAUGSEPTOCT
NINETEENSIXTYNINE
TCOTPESGUAYLUJSED
DESJULYAUGSEPTOCTNINETEENSIXTYNINE
ENINYTXISNEETENINTCOTPESGUAYLUJSED
ENINYTXISNEETENIN

Whenever I looked at the "solver" options, I was afraid to change something that would disfigure the efficiency of your program.
Once again, thank you Mr Jarvle. :D

Hello.
I’m here again. :D
In my research, I also noted that the months written in the correspondence (DES, JULY, AUG, SEPT, OCT), in addition to having a length of 17 letters, when written in full and unabbreviated form are 34 letters in length , obviously double the 17 (which I found curious).
DECEMBERJULYAUGUSTSEPTEMBEROCTOBER

DECEMBERJULYAUGUSTSEPTEMBEROCTOBER

In suma , in addition to twice the length of each 340 line, we have 10% of the total characters that form the cipher.
Happy New Year to everybody.
Marcelo ;)
