No, that is all of the symbols from all of the ciphers combined. Read DOWN. So the + sign on the far left occurs 32 times, and the ‘omega’ on the right only occurs 1 time.

It was the easiest way for me to show it. Also, these are from my "ZKDFont" that I created for the ZKD program. I’m no artist, but I tried to represent the symbols faithfully.

Very interesting stuff – and kudos on the research job (it must have taken a lot of time to sift through all these brands to come up with matches).

My take on this is as follows: If you can demonstrate that those brands you refer to as oddball ones are indeed very rare symbols, it would certainly be compelling that they appear within Z’s ciphers. I’m not sure to what extent you have done so, however, not being overly familiar with the subject. Question: Has anyone found these oddballs anywhere else, i.e. found the symbols appearing as anything other than brands (and Z symbols)?

The more common symbols (geometric shapes, inverted letters, semaphore like signs, etc.) are less compelling as matches: It could be coincidental that such basic forms/symbols/signs appear as both brands (of which there are literally thousands) and within the Z ciphers.

Lastly, the “Halloween” symbol strikes me as very, very interesting. To me, at least, is seems very plausible that the symbol used in that particular missive is indeed a cattle brand – it’s a far better match than any other I’ve seen proposed and it doesn’t require any tortured interpretations either. However, it must be noted that the “Halloween” symbol A) appears in one of the Z missives which has been questioned and B) is not a cipher symbol.

I hope you continue your work on this – it’s certainly an angle worth investigating further.

My take on the brand connection. First step is to assume the Halloween card is part of "Z" handy work. The finding and linking of the symbol on the card and the red masked skeleton was a stroke of genius by whomever put that together. The linking of that card to Fred Harman’s Red Ryder cattle ranch and the cartoon is another stroke of genius. Whether or not it has anything to do with Freds ranch or its just something Z has used is slightly irrelevant, because I think he’s cluing us in too use branding. So my take on this is that the number "14" in the palm of the skeleton is suggestive to look further at the "4-teen" (I am saying this because 14, 4-teen is now twice on that card.) so using the 4 in the 4-teen, "Z" uses a very open 4 it looks like a J on its side, the 4 can fit several letters and scenarios. It fits my POI maybe because I want it too or maybe because it just does. In the branding world it could read I think LJL. Read from the side using the hyphen it could read LJL- hanging teen. or on its side lazy LJL.

PS Z used the open 4 mostly, i use it a bit to test his writings against others, the car door is an example.
PSs Devils Advocate: the 4 also looks like a h upside down, and that does not help me.

I can make this fit my poi ..combined Upside down L sideways J and an l. = LJL. I know I’m stretching our friendship but it does fit, branding is usually letters all over the shop.

Well….that was an interesting read. I do still think Z was heavily into Brands and had a strong connection with ranching. Thanks for that!

I wonder how many cattle ranches there were in the Paradise Valley ,Montana maybe he was a park ranger at Yellowstone there before he moved to Yosemite.

In 1959 there were 29 westerns tv series being aired during prime time. That is the high mark for these type of shows. During the 1950’s and 60’s, there were over a thousand tv series on this subject matter. My point is, that the Zodiac looked like the Riders of the Purple Sage. He looked like a bandit when he had his pistol, knife, and black mask on. Just the way he opened up with his guns in these attacks, like a gun slinger in a gun fight. The idea of him being involved with brands is an interesting idea.

Here is an odd connection to Utah…..from the Halloween Card. The Peek-a-boo part.

That is a picture of Peek-a-boo gulch in Utah….the pic is one of the more famous spots of peek-a-boo gulch. Looks oddly like the hole in the tree from the halloween card huh? Happens to be in Zion National Park and is also called Red Canyon. Oddly enough…Tim Holt filmed Wagon Train there in Kanab Utah in 1940….and it was an RKO movie.

There was also a doomed united airline flight 608 there too in 1947. Interesting, one of the passengers who died, was a CEO for Montgomery Ward’s. Felt certain I heard that store name in relation to the Zodiac and, sure enough, there was. Funny. I made the post but for the life of me I can’t remember why. None of what I read rang a bell.

Oh, and by the way, peek a boo is in Bryce canyon national park and not Zion. You were looking at a Zion website advertising the other.

I know that Frank Oppenheimer, a renowned nuclear physicist and brother to JR Oppenheimer who invented the Nuke, had a cabin near Harman’s ranch. Not sure if he had cows there, but he was a cattle rancher. He established the Exploratorium in San Fransisco in 1969. Wonder what brand his cows had? Just random thought (no I don’t think he was Z).

I did some brand research myself, thinking that the 7VF symbol on the Halloween Card could have been a cattle brand.

It includes all of the California cattle brands that were similar to the symbol in 1969, and there are a few that resemble the crosshairs symbol as well.

None are an exact match to the 7VF symbol with four dots included.
