Hey Gang. This is my first post so I hope it comes through OK. Been working on a different approach to the 340 that’s yielded some interesting results and wanted to share. Thanks for having me and I look forward to the feed back…..good and bad. :) There’s a 2nd part but needed to break it apart in order to post.

Here is the 2nd half which includes an idea about how to fold the document.

Thanks for posting BigBuckDown,I really know nothing about ciphers, so I hope some of the cipher solvers here can give you some good feedback

Thanks for posting your work BBD.

I liked the idea. I couldn’t really say if there’s any merit in that approach but as ‘something to try’ I did think it was interesting. A direction of approach to explore. Could have been fun.

I’m going to be lazy and not analyse it in detail. Something best left to better qualified folks but I would like to ask at what point in your exploration did ‘Dick Gaik’ first feature? By that I mean did you start with that in mind or did you perhaps see a letter here and there and then eventually make that connection in your mind? I ask because it kinda skews things quite heavily depending on how, when and why the name (if you can call it that) features.

If you started with it then the reality, I’m afraid, is that you have probably just produced an artistic way of getting to that ‘solution’. If you began with an honest and unbiased exploration and then steered it towards that solution based on a letter here and there then it’s just as invalid. I would be interested, against all hope I should add, if you had never heard of the words ‘Dick Gaik’ and genuinely had no idea that they meant or referred to.

That said I genuinely did like the idea and I’ve always found those 8’s curious. I’ve also wondered myself about how or if some of the other diagrams and ciphers may have been a clue or puzzle to unraveling the 340. I think you have an interesting approach there to explore but I had to chime in about the ‘Gaik’ thing because it’s a potential ‘idea killer’. No pun intended.

Here’s your PDF’s converted to jpegs for ‘in thread’ viewing.

What were the "meaningless symbols" you removed? How did you determine that they were meaningless? Or is it just that they didn’t fit into a "Dick Gaik" solution?

Just throwin’ this in here as the idea has been discussed before. Maybe it will help…or not. :)

Thanks for the feedback traveller and thanks for the other responses.

I am fairly new to the case and don’t have a favorite person of interest. When I saw the "my name is cipher" and noticed the shaded in circles, I decided to give it a shot. Especially when I remembered the wiring technology about displaying numbers 1-9 by using the number 8. And how the letters start at the top of the 8 and work around clockwise. It’s called 7 segment display if you want to look it up.

But at the same time, I have to objectively criticize my own work. Even though I wasn’t trying to force a particular suspect, there’s always a chance that unconsciously it occurred after reading through some of the posts. In addition, I doubt very seriously that it’s an approved method of solving. At the end of the day, technology has come a long way and the fact the 340 is unsolved makes the use of cipher keys very intriguing. I personally believe we are dealing with abstract puzzles that will be left open for interpretation. Regardless, I wanted to try something outside the norm to see what would happen.

If I had to give a quick breakdown on the potential solution, I can say for certain, using the idea of the three 8’s as cipher keys is truly not forced and I stayed in sequence with the alphabet until I ran out of space. So I stayed in order from A-L. However this is problematic because I eliminate half of the alphabet. By eliminating half the alphabet my odds of receiving those letters increases. It doesn’t mean I am right or wrong but it’s the truth. I am probably the first person you’ve had willing to bash their own work. :)

The real reason I posted this idea is because of pages number 3 and 4. I truly believe the bomb diagram produces a key. And I find it super interesting that you can find the "open" and "close" symbols arranged in that pattern. The question is…am I potentially right about it relating to folding the cipher or is there a message located in that area? I was hoping some of the substitution guys could check it out.

The "meaningless symbols" was a bad choice of words on my part. Nothing is meaningless. I was just referring to everything that wasn’t a circle or a square.
