Wow. You guys actually did it. Absolutely amazing! Congratulations!

It’s kind of incredible to see how a lot of little intuitions built up over time led to the solution. It would be really interesting to go back over all of the little apparent anomalies and see which of them have some connection to the actual structure of the cipher, and which were complete ghosts.

Can somebody please explain, as I do not see it, yet? At least not with the key given in the video?

2.) One letter ‘H’ has been moved leftwards from the end of the
line in which it appeared, to a new position in that same line as shown
like this ‘>H<‘ . doranchak‘s video explains that moving this
letter to this new position was found to fix a number of
apparent spelling errors in the plaintext. It is unknown if
this positional mistake by the Zodiac was intentional or
unintentional.
3.) The phrase "life is" seen above does not follow the
ciphertext methodology of section one and section two
of moving across two letters and down one letter to get
to the next sequential letter of the text. Therefore "life is"
may possibly be intended to be read separately from the
main text.
4.) In a version of doranchak‘s video this line letter
sequence may appear at or after about timestamp 08:00;

1.) This sections methodology is simply to write each
individual word either forwards or backwards.
2.) The word "death" may possibly be intended to be read
separately from the main text, and is possibly intended
to be matched to the phrase in section two of ‘life is’.
A result of treating the words ‘life is death‘ as separate
from the main text, is that then the main text is more
grammatically correct and understandable.

I still do not see any solution – where for example do you think to see the word ‘EVERYONE’? I searched for about ten minutes – only for this word! – and could not even find that one!

The only two ‘Y’s followed by an ‘O’ on the next line (line 6,15) are not followed by a ‘N’ on the second line – at all.

Thus, I can’t even find the ONE out of it!

It is easier to find if you follow the deciphered text from the start and do not try to hop on somewhere in the middle. I have tried to make a visual aid that answers your question:

The word "EVERYONE" is in the middle section, where one line has to be offset, this is included in the GIF that I made. Also note that in this particular word, the sequence Y -> O -> N you are mentioning is not apparent in the matrix, because text wraps around and continues from the left edge.

Thanks for making the gif. Some text has been entered by themselves (see vid ~min3). Guess I will have to check the pattern in detail but not today.

So many people felt there was not a message, that it was a joke on us. I always believed the Zodiac who we know has a huge ego, would have had a message in that cipher, but that perhaps it was done in a mirror image or in another language? ( We missed the clue, which was on the envelope with that message being done on the diagonal!) I also felt that David was determined to solve it and would probably be the one to do that, I had no idea he had two others just as determined as he was. Congratulations to all involved!

I thought that the HER^ 9 at the top and the ^MDHN 9 ( "W" was used for an "A" in the Hardens solution, but upside down it is an M) at the bottom I thought was a clue to the word Hernandez which is 9 letters, the 9th letter of the alphabet being "I", or a double meaning "I Hernandez"? The letters on the bottom right looked like Zodiak to me? Could there be another message within this message?

Would it be difficult to design a cipher with both a basic substitution (the "by" messages) and the more complex transposition solve?

(It wasn’t Dennis Rader by the way, he was abroad with the air force).
