I have just browsed a bit in old threads and came across the following link:
https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/about-us/lab/forensic-science-communications/fsc/april2006/research/2006_04_research01.htm
The section about the Zodiac killer shows a letter I didn’t know before. That’s strange, because I thought I knew all the real and supposed zodiac letters that have been published so far. In addition, the article mentions that the illustrated letter shows the only cracked cipher. This can only mean z408, but it is not shown there.
Did I miss something obvious? Or is it just a mistake here?

Could you possible re-post the link? It is just taking me to the fbi website, not the page with the letter.
strange…the link is correct, but it only works if you copy and paste it. Direct clicking doesn’t seem to work with all browsers.
Could you try copying this one please?:

EDIT:
Seems to be problematic on mobile devices.
That was one of the unconfirmed Fairfield letters. Not sure why they would use that, I assume the author didn’t know better.

Thank you Coffee Time and Quicktrader!
I’ve been reading Steve Hodel’s book, Black Dahlia Avenger, and I’m seeing more and more parallels between the Black Dahlia Avenger (the person who wrote the letters) and Zodiac. That isn’t to say they’re the same person, but it’s possible and I think likely that Zodiac was aware of the BDA.
BDA played a game with the newspapers. He told them he was going to turn himself in at a particular time and place. He asked if he could get 10 years if he turned himself in.
That makes the part in the Fairfield letter about Zodiac turning himself in interesting.
Zodiac was a screwup. He left behind five breathing victims, two survivors, bootprints, possibly fingerprints and palmprints, tiretracks, eyewitnesses, and earwitnesses. If the APB had gone out for a WMA he would have been locked up in ’69.
