There’s a Arthur Zimmerman listed at 1555 38th ave SF in the 1970 directory & a Joseph M. Zimmerman at 2070 Pacific(not sure if they are related)

Ophion I’m not sure what year your Z’s Buffet was on Kearny St. but I have an ad for a Z’s Bountiful Buffet from a Chronicle dated the day Paul Stine died and the restaurant was on Geary Blvd. at that time. there could have been more than one Z’s Buffet, I suppose.

Here is the distance between the two Z’s Buffets. I have highlighted the Mission District on the map in yellow. The Mission District is where Officer Brodnik was killed, not near the theater district or downtown

Seagull, it was in the 1969-1970 directory. Zimmerman owned about 35 restaurants in the bay area including the one you mentioned. He was considered to be the "burger king" of the bay area.

Most of his restaurants were called Zim’s. He was fighting in WWII when one day he decided he wanted to open a burger joint when he got back home, and sure enough. He also dabbled in real estate.
