Seems paint flakes of some sort, leading investigators to think their perp was in construction,etc…and bouced between Santa Barbara/Goleta area, and the SF Bay area. This brings to mind the ‘paint splattered’ watch at the Bates scene.
I can see why some people have considered a possible connection to Zodiac

"The ‘paint-splattered watch’ at the Bates scene" was attributed to "Bob Barnett" having painted a shed, or small house which was his residence in back of his parents’ home. Don’t know if the paint on the watch was matched against the paint on the shed/small house. Wonder if RPD would share this info with us?
