I’m not really sure which home computer Mr. Halloran had back in 1981 but I’m going to assume it was the latest, most efficient model of the time. In 1981 there were two new models available. Perhaps his was one of these computers.
At their introduction in 1981, the US $1,795 price of the Osborne 1 and its competitor Kaypro was considered an attractive price point; these systems had text-only displays and only floppy disks for storage.
$1,795.00 in 1981 would be worth $4,614.40 today.
I got an Acer Chromebook for a portable computer not long ago. It does almost everything, with apps, that any computer will do and costs $199.00!

Yah, I like how they put that caption there "Owns Home Computer"….today it’s like owning a pair of shoes.
They also mention it taking 2 hours to download the paper! Now we are swearing at our computers when they don’t link up in 20 seconds.
