Gianrico C. Pierucci has the most exciting job in San Francisco. Or at least one of them.
He’s the 51-year-old police inspector assigned to spend his days investigating (and reinvestigating and then investigating again) the 1969 Zodiac killing in San Francisco.
Pierucci was about six years old when the unidentified Zodiac serial killer murdered a young night cabbie named Paul Stine in the city’s glamorous Presidio Heights neighborhood.
Dozens of amateur sleuths fret over that and the other four confirmed Zodiac killings, as well as the cyphers and letters the Zodiac sent papers like the San Francisco Chronicle. There’s the group of retired cops, the forums, the 2007 movie that made obsession with the case seem dark and cool, even sexy.
Now here’s where you come in: if you are currently obsessing (or want to) obsess about the Zodiac case, drop us a line. Point us in the right direction, tell us where to start. There’s a lot out there, from from sex scandals to the Mt. Diablo Radian Theory.
We’ll find the right people and ask them the questions you want to know. Got a tip or a theory? A character to know or a bit of information to share? Write us.
But first there’s Pierucci, 51, the Italy-born, 28-year veteran San Francisco cop. Pierucci, who often wears a three-piece suit and fedora to work, is paid to spend his day picking at the case of Stine….
I think there are some good things going on behind the scenes, and that various jurisdictions are collaborating, sharing, and cross-referencing each other’s Zodiac stuff, suspects, evidence reports, etc. Maybe 2016 will be the year the case is solved
There is more than one way to lose your life to a killer
