Ha! Ha! Given that paper’s reputation we can only hope that’s it’s really a picture of Zayed! To be fair and I don’t know why, it was the only picture of the guy I could find, too.

Yes, I think that’s true. It’s still about chasing that case number 97-017, isn’t it.
The fact that this case happened in June ’97 and there’s that date on the photo’s is what pushed him toward it I guess. *shrug*

I’ve suggested elsewhere that maybe the 97-017 number has something to do with the New York Zodiac Killer. He was arrested in 1996 and did not go to trial until 1998. I know Seda was too young to be considered as having committed the California Zodiac attacks but maybe, for whatever reason, LE decided to run some DNA tests on the shirt at that time.

Seagull, I hadn’t read that elsewhere but yes, could be. It’s frustrating to be able to find no source of information about that number. (If it means anything at all, that is.)

From what I have read, DNA testing was done in 1997.

The shirt was most likely tested and given it’s own identification number along with the other items tested. 97-XXXXX

I’d be prepared to accept that, personally. But it’s a bit boring.

This higher resolution copy of a chunk of Hal Snook’s handwriting (from this report) has just popped up.
http://www.zodiackiller.com/LBReport28.html

Anyone think it’s worth a chat?

The report is interesting..

1. Z had access to more than a bronze Mercury Comet. The 1966-67 (!) light blue Chevrolet with Calif plates had ‘long rather than round’ headlights? And a ‘tinted rear glass’ window? The Impala looks different..so which model was Z driving that day?
2. The age of Z is estimated 25 in 1969..so he was born approx. 1944 and should now be 68 years old.
3. Suspect had black hair. No dark, no brown, no blond. Black. This might sort of rule out the possibility of ‘Sandy’ being Z? More than one killer?
4. Description fits quite well..but no glasses mentioned. Z not necessarily had to wear glasses.

The tests were carried out by the Zodiac’s son or daughter whilst wearing Paul Stine’s glasses to ensure inconclusive results. How’s that Smithy? :D

If this turns up as a website dedicated to the theory I reserve the right to distance myself slightly from this complete fabrication.

Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.

Tricky it is. You can easily see things that look really compelling, especially when there are similarities. Trouble is that you then have to remember that there are lots of handwriting out there that are in the same boat.

Sometimes I have to step back and think to myself, hold on, why am I finding this interesting? Then I have to try and be more critical. Start looking for good differences, they are sometimes easier to find.

You also have to decide if Zodiac’s writing was disguised. Morrill didn’t think so. I don’t think so either but then there are things that cast some doubt on that. Still, there’s enough examples and enough evidence of habit in certain aspects that they should show up in any comparison.

Different 7’s
Different q’s

To name a few in this instance.
