Just out of curiousity were there ever any POI associated with ACA?
There has been rumours that a select number ACA members where given Z340 to assist in the case before being made public public

As for the question itself, no idea. However, I might mention this:

The 340 was mailed to the Chronicle on Nov 8 1969 and printed on Nov 12.

Nov 8 was a Saturday, so it’s possible the paper didn’t receive it until the following Monday (10th). In other words, the rumor you mention sounds unlikely given the time frame. The cipher was made public only a couple of days after the paper received it.

I am not aware of any POI associated with ACA, but I did find this page from Lyndon Lafferty’s book where he talks about ACA members Edward Steinke, Henry Ephron, and William Sutton.

Lafferty’s book, "evidence", and code breaking efforts have been repeatedly rejected by most rational people, so it’d be interesting to know if any of those ACA members really do think there is anything significant in Lafferty’s code work (I believe there is not).

I keep getting different readouts of the 340 cipher that range from zodiac referring to himself as saint hood (not KK) to boats being used, locations of possible interest surrounding gold, target areas such as I9, body of woman and boy thrown from cliff, etc etc. The problem is, I know how the pattern can work, but it is a matter of finding something which zodiac would have used as methods of delivery for his meanings to be understood by his audience. Logically, the newspapers it was aimed for to be printed in, through some kind of advertisement/classified ads/find-a-date correspondences, etc, would be effective.
Certain elements within the proposal of the 340 also seem to relay that:
people should meet tonight and come prepared/location includes a private lake/I9 is reserved by zodiac/kurt will get ahead people(? on that one- it implies this is a communication system)/that lhe (possibly lee?) choked debbie/knives are good/guns can draw attention/kidnap on I9/that the writer of the 340 was once ‘fked in the park’ and he enjoyed it (as a victim, not an attacker)/boat fk is good/ and a lot more.
They are read in different builds of the 340, and a way I check to see if any of the proposals make sense is by checking 4 lines to see if they ‘tell a story/stories’ or fit ‘zodiac’s actions or reputed intentions/behavioural pattern’. Then i try and cross-reference what I read with any facts I can find from the archives/using this site as sources of information. As of a few weeks ago, I knew little about Zodiac. Now the pain in the ass seems to be there…
There seems to be names within a build which also makes for interest, but -as with all zodiac stuff- this is just a working theory which may be totally wrong.
There seems to be a lot of material for a 17×20 grid, with minimum fuss of finding these messages when using all of the symbols per line and not missing any out.
This system includes the icons themselves making sense when put into the different orders, as they genuinely seem to replace certain sounds or letters. This system is quite simple and does not require anything except the cipher itself, and the means to read it in its relevant order, as proposed from the sender to the receiver.
Unfortunately, such classifieds of the time for the SF Chronicle/LA Times etc seem to be out of reach on the internet and, with most likely hundreds of them per month in the late 60s/early 70s, it would seem a daunting task to check them.

According to the show on the history channel, files they uncovered showed the head of the ACA believed Z to be one of their members… but, nothing was proven

Probably cause there was no truth to it and for dramatic purposes. Ps. maybe a few members on this board involve with the show and know more.

The Zodiac codes were pretty simple and straight forward stuff. Little reason to believe he had a deep understanding of cryptograms.

I agree.
The FBI pretty much said a child could write a cipher like Zodiac did ( Not in those exact words).
