The Colored SFPD sketch is similar to Herb Caen middle AGED. (Attached).
Interesting how he typed with his LOYAL ROYAL and always wore WRIST WATCH, he also wore GLASSES.
There was a suspicion that ZODIAC worked at the Chronicle, which Caen did.
Caen started at the SF Chronicle and then went into the AIR FORCE and then worked at the SF EXAMINER.
He had a direct connection to the EDITOR and wrote daily.

Hmm, yea there is a guy that lived in SF named Strange De Jim. He loved sending in short letters to Herb Caen to form their ongoing newspaper relationship.
Strange De Jim wore a custom pillowcase head costume around town, wore glasses, and was into Astrology type stuff.
He didn’t move to SF until 1971. But he does seem still a bit “Out There’.
Interesting you can find many examples of Herb Caen writing in blue ink, using a pen.
This postage is similar to the BELI Letter. An EBAY Herb Caen autographed envelope.
The SFPD Police sketch is similar to Caen’s facial features, including brown/red hair.
The height and width of the bridge of the nose to the mouth are almost identical, which is pretty damn interesting.
Caen’s and Z’s handwriting aren’t identical, but Caen did use underlines and used the + between words A LOT. His exclamation marks are similar to Z’s. This is Caen writing in cursive, interesting I suppose…
The Count Marco Letter and this cursive written by Caen, do look similar in the style and formatting of the letters.
For the Halloween Card – Paradice could = Pair Of Dice. Herb Caen frequently played the game of Dice.
The 14 circles that look like eyes on the inside, could easily be C’s, as in C for Caen.
The two orange skeleton eyes plus the large pumpkin = three Orange circles, or dots. Caen was known for his “Three Dot Journalism, using … frequently. Could these be hints to Caen?
And let me please reiterrate, I did not know who Herb CAEN was until I looked at the Z Cipher. We must understand Caen was known to WRITE characters, taking on different personas in a quick, witty way, which was normal to this man.
It started with the letter CIPHER of HERB with the backward C, and the follow-up cipher was AEN. These are both top left, bottom down, though with some reversal in the code. Zodiac literally specifically said he purposely LEFT clues in the ciphers to his Identify.
Though the letter handwriting in the early letters is odd/smudged, this CAN be faked by someone if enough effort is put in to hide his/her identity.
We must remember BTK, he did not get CAUGHT intentionally, he actually HID his tracks very well. It was the bait that ultimately caught him.
“Professional” Profilers were nowhere CLOSE to suspecting him as a target, so one MIGHT suspect Mr. Celeb of SF — Herb Caen, the same way.
The GS Killer was LITERALLY never suspected as the murder suspect until Entenseive DNA INVESTIGATION LINKED him to it. He was a GHOST to LE. Yet he was in LAW ENFORCEMENT THE WHOLE TIME.
I find it alarming, that Herb Caen, was a CA Police Reporter before working for the SF Chronicle… Oh, and also was in the US AIR FORCE ARMY for four years before that, obsessed with media and being INCLUDED IN MEDIA SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. He even said ” I won’t retire because my name won’t be in the PAPER anymore.”
These are odd connections to make, especially since he WORKED for the SF Chronicle. He typed on a LOYAL ROYAL typewriter and used a BLUE TIP PEN to write with, you can google these images and see for yourself.
Z Wrote with Blue, to Newspapers. This cannot be ignored as a false connection or chance probability.
The big thing is Caen could CREATE characters, as well as switch his handwriting style up. Just Google All of Herb Caen’s personal letters and you’ll find a wide ARRAY of BLUE written words.
Caen was sharp and could switch PERSONAS as need be, including PHYSICALLY. The Zodiac ADMITTED to wearing a disguise, was that glasses? was it facial features? was it – weight? Was it – height? COSTUME was part of Z, Caen loved the OPERA.
The SFPD sketch by the OFFICER says the suspect could have been 45, Caen would have been 52.
The Facial Symmertires are similar, believe it or not, with Herb Caen and the SFPD Police Sketch. This cannot be ignored.
I have read that investigators suspected some link between the Zodiac Killer and the SF Chronicle Newspaper, well Herb Caen worked for the Chronicle and had a direct relationship with the paper, the editor, the EMPLOYEE’S, including Mr. Marco.
He even talked about Melvin Belli in his columns and was known to write CARDS.
The perfect Camouflage is to blend into others, as they operate. Such as working for a newspaper and working every day EXCEPT Saturday.
It might not have been Herb Caen, but there are a lot of signals pointing at him, or someone close to him…
So there is the Larry KANE connection, but how about the Herb Caen connection? A public figure able to get away with pretty much everything, because well, no one would dare question HIM.
Again, this is not 100% proof of Herb Caen being the Zodiac Killer, but I please encourage others to investigate him.
The wild card is his use of eyeglasses and WRIST WATCHES. He owned an OMEGA CONSTELLATION Wrist Watch with the OMEGA symbol. Interesting to say the least.

See, this is exactly what I’m getting at. Herb CAEN could easily SWITCH characters and lean on previous writings for future writings. Thinking Zodiac, who pretty much copied Herb Caen’s Words, is somebody ELSE, and not Mr. Caen himself is short-sighted.
So Yes, we have the plausible explanation that Zodiac just paraphrased/copied Herb Caen’s writing in a Public Newspaper. Which is totally logical to do.
But, at the same time, HERB CAEN could be REFERENCING himself, as in, his own characters to talk to through the media.
The Irony is, that HERB CAEN was the ZODIAC KILLER. He was talking to himself through different characters, not a guarantee but definitely not IMPOSSIBLE for someone who doesn’t want to get caught. It’s actually pretty Smart to do to avoid suspicion if you ask me?
Ignore the naysayers who try to put you down. HC is a very interesting character and what can gleaned from him can be important elsewhere. For example, I pay attention to the stuff he is critical off in the newspapers, especially mocking different sports activities.
There is a good chance the Zodiac is in with popular people connected to the case. Your Secret Pal.
BTW, the Zodiac can be identified in many other ways than DNA.
Fingerprints.
Palm prints.
Ballistics.
Linguistics.
Are just some examples. Prints can be even lifted from bodies and found on their items after death including DNA. There are also apparently various institutions in the US that keep records of fingerprints should any claimed to be lost.
